2 of the world's biggest stages are right on my doorstep. I can walk to Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation from home AND work. It’s an immense privilege that’s not lost on me one little bit. I absolutely LOVE LOVE watching live tennis (the GP doesn’t have quite the same effect on me) but of course, like most fabulous things - as a climate tech founder, it’s hard to unsee the abundance and waste that comes from such events (I fully participated in this abundance - I am not judging anyone here - believe me!) So I equally had my eyes peeled for the good, the progress, the reduced waste, the smart changes being made, the circularity programs that are emerging and I am optimistic that we are headed in the right direction.  LUCKILY for me, I bumped into our member Marky Rochford Frank Wild on the concourse who was checking in on the Kia Australia Pty Ltd build his team had crafted. And I got a lil sneak peek inside! As specialists in sustainable event management, frank wild know EXACTLY how to measure and manage the environmental effects of events and they do it, whether it's in the brief or not. Marky took Matthew Bruce and I through Kia's set up and talked us through the clever ways they reduce, reuse, recycle in their builds - over and over and over! The updated plan contains a series of recommendations for a low carbon future

1:0 for the environment. Since 2019, TRILUX has joined forces with VfL Wolfsburg with a shared commitment to sustainability. Our collaboration has aimed to drive positive environmental change through innovative solutions. In 2020, amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, TRILUX provided VfL Wolfsburg with protective screens, that got placed in various parts of the Volkswagen stadium. As early as during the production of these screens, thought was given to what would happen to them at the end of the pandemic. So rather than discarding these screens post-pandemic, a thoughtful initiative was undertaken to repurpose them. The protective screens were collected and brought back to the TRILUX headquarters in Arnsberg. Here they were first shredded and processed into granulate, which was then used to produce cases for new luminaires. And these luminaires now light up parts of the Volkswagen Arena. This initiative not only underscores the power of collaboration but also serves as a testament to our shared values of environmental responsibility. By repurposing materials and embracing sustainable practices, we are not only achieving tangible benefits for our organization but also setting a precedent for the broader community. Together, VfL Wolfsburg and TRILUX continue to innovate and champion sustainable practices, setting a positive example for the sports industry and beyond. 4 things the Paris Olympics can teach the events industry ⬇️ 1️⃣ Why replace what's working - London 2012 saw 6 new stadiums built, Rio 2016 saw 10 permanent sites and 7 temporary sites. Paris will only build 2 new, purpose-built stadiums, the remaining 33 already exist. 2️⃣ Consider sustainable alternatives - The 2 new stadiums will be built using 'low-carbon construction methods' and will feature seats made from recycled local plastic waste. 3️⃣ Inclusivity is simple - Not only have they promised to double the proportion of plant-based ingredients available than previous years, 80% of ingredients will come from local agriculture production to reduce transport emissions. 4️⃣ Collaboration is key - Instead of relying on diesel generators traditionally used to power the games, Paris has focused on establishing lasting connections between the public electricity network and the stadiums. 🏅⚽🎾 The day before the opening of the #Paris2024 Olympic and Paralympic games, we wondered how the Organizing Committee included #reuse into their strategy. Here are 3 key facts taken from the offical website of the IOC : 1️⃣ Embedding a #circular #economy approach is one of the five strategic pillars of Paris 2024’s procurement strategy, which comprises five steps: rethinking ways to do things; #reducing the use of resources; #reusing equipment; #recycling products; and reassembling the Games ecosystem. 2️⃣ All of the furniture and 90 per cent of signage used for the Games will be given a second life, #reused, redeployed or recycled, and 100 per cent of the materials used for temporary infrastructure will also be given a #second #life, with 50 per cent remaining in France. 3️⃣ Paris 2024 has worked on reducing its packaging. 700 beverage fountains will be available across all Paris 2024 sites, and the organisers will install free drinking water points.
