The new wave of Taiwanese startups coming into Japan is a clear sign that we are on the right track in developing Japan into a fertile startup ecosystem. For many good reasons, Taiwan is the largest source of startups entering the Japanese market for many good reasons. The proximity of the two self-described startup islands combined with cultural similarities work to the benefit of the startups. The initiatives by the Tokyo government and the Kishida government are creating real opportunities for startups. While Silicon Valley is the iconic startup ecosystem, Japan may be a closer and easier-to-approach ecosystem for startups, especially those from Asia. Japanese companies are looking for growth globally and Asia is near the top of the target list. Asia is the fastest-growing region in the world and could therefore become the biggest source of startups in the region as well.
