A throwback to when SpaceX launched into orbit three new GHGSat methane satellites that carry on board ABB-built optical sensors! 🚀 Named Mey-Lin, Gaspard, and Océane, the three satellites travelled on SpaceX's Transporter-7 mission from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. They separated from the rocket approximately 63 minutes after liftoff and are now orbiting the Earth, monitoring emissions from space. The satellite optical sensors map methane emissions and provide invaluable insights to governments and industries looking to meet their emission reduction targets. This is the third GHGSat launch with ABB optical sensors on board. GHGSat, a global leader in high-resolution greenhouse gas monitoring from space, now has a constellation of nine satellites in orbit. ABB has built the sensors for the last seven, and we are proudly working on more. What a great example of technology benefiting the environment! SpaceX's recent rocket launch ended in failure, resulting in the loss of 20 Starlink satellites that were intended to provide global internet connectivity. The launch vehicle, a Falcon 9 rocket, experienced an anomaly shortly after liftoff, causing the satellites to plummet back to Earth. The failure marks a significant setback for SpaceX's ambitious Starlink program, which aims to create a network of thousands of satellites in low-Earth orbit. The lost satellites were part of the program's latest batch, designed to expand coverage and improve network performance. Despite the failure, SpaceX remains committed to the Starlink program, with numerous successful launches already under its belt. The company is working to identify the cause of the anomaly and implement corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The incident highlights the challenges and risks associated with space exploration and satellite development. While SpaceX has made significant strides in advancing space technology, the failure serves as a reminder of the complexities and uncertainties involved in launching and operating satellites in space. . . . #SpaceXFailure #StarlinkSatellites #RocketLaunchFailure #SpaceExplorationChallenges #SatelliteTechnology #tribunetrends

SpaceX has informed the FCC that it will begin its direct-to-cell satellite service this fall, with plans to initially deploy around 300 satellites to provide robust coverage across the U.S. and other regions. This service, aimed at T-Mobile customers, will utilize SpaceX’s low Earth orbit satellites positioned approximately 500 kilometers above the Earth. The larger second-generation SpaceX satellites can connect to the majority of T-Mobile’s 4G and 5G phones over its 1900 MHz spectrum. In contrast, AT&T and Verizon are partnering with AST SpaceMobile for their direct-to-cell services. SpaceX plans to launch around 2,000 direct-to-cell satellites out of the 7,500 approved for deployment. To date, SpaceX has launched more than 100 such satellites, significantly outpacing competitors like Globalstar which plans to have 17 satellites by the end of 2025 for Apple’s SOS service.
