With any luck, you’ve been able to take advantage of what summer we’ve had this year to recharge your batteries. Regardless of if you travelled abroad or stayed in the UK, take that time to rest and recuperate – especially as a busy business owner. Sometimes, we forget that the tech we use day to day, sometimes needs to have that reset to help it run smoothly and efficiently. You probably know yourself well enough that you can recognise signs tell you that it’s time for a reset, but what about the tech you use? Today we look at some signs and times when it would be sensible to reset your IT. https://lnkd.in/e4NtJs3C

SEE THE INVISIBLE A short story: In the early 2000s, the world's largest data centers were wasting nearly 40% of their energy to inefficient systems intended to keep their servers cool. Everyone accepted this wastefulness as the cost of doing business, the price of innovation. But after some digging, my team and I noticed a major flaw in the system: ventilation. Pressurized cold air was being pushed through vents from under the raised floor, and the air flow went from the front of the server to the back, then returned through the ceiling. The problem was the floor behind the servers had a cutout in it for cable wiring. We decided to build sensors to map the airflow, and discovered up to 80% of the cold air was escaping through these cutouts and being recycled without ever cooling a single server. The effects were massive. And so we developed something seemingly simple... A small piece of plastic we called 'KoldLok.' KoldLok plugged the gap in the back of the server racks, containing the cold air and directing it to where it was needed — the hardware. The result? A MAJOR reduction in energy usage. To this day, KoldLok saves the electrical footprint of San Francisco. But this story isn’t just about a plastic plug... It's about LEVERAGE. It's about learning to understand your systems so deeply, you can identify tiny changes that make exponential impact. This is how I've spent my career — finding leverage in industries, systems, and the lives of people I work with. I've realized that the biggest transformations don't actually come from being disruptive. They come from asking yourself, “What am I missing here that no one else is seeing?"
