Set clear standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. When expectations are black and white, the standard becomes the "bad guy," not you. Everyone knows the rules, and it saves endless debates and decisions.🛠️ Make sure your standards are written down and well-communicated.📋 #leadershiptips #lawncarebusiness #fieldservice #landscapinglife #businessgrowth #successmindsets #greenindustrymastermind

The Compassionate Safety WebWorkshop Wednesday 25 September, 0900-1000 (UK) The reduction of anything to its constituent parts causes something to be lost. Because of this, Compassionate Safety is a holistic perspective, a systems approach. Join me to consider how it is our duty to communicate not just the parts, but also the betweenness; to communicate that which exists between the parts. Find out more and book on via our website here: https://lnkd.in/enyw7qkd #compassionatesafety #safetyleadership #safetyculture

Director, SaferNow. Training and Consultancy Services | Serious Violence | Exploitation | Communities of Practice
“For many exploited young people, they feel their situation could always be worse, and at times, has the potential to be made worse through professional actions, as those actions can bring additional contextual risk,” Really pleased to be able to highlight the necessity for informed and considered #safetyplanning in extra-familial harm contexts. Complex safeguarding requires creative problem-solving. Disruption of perpetrators requires creative problem-solving. Safety Planning is creative problem solving. https://lnkd.in/eK_MYEER
We're excited to share that this past week, we featured in Children & Young People Now, a magazine and website for all professionals who work to improve the life chances of children, young people and families! Our Director, Sean Monaghan, spoke about the value of safety planning within our field and why it is so important for professionals to take a person-centred, contextually informed approach. “Let’s be brutally honest, it’s the health and safety equipment that injured him” I'm a big fan of Clarkson's Farm (season 3 is my favourite, despite Amazon’s new advertising regime 😠), but Jeremy Clarkson's recent quip about safety equipment causing Kaleb's accident deserves a closer look. At first glance, it would appear that if Kaleb wasn't wearing the harness, he wouldn't have been injured. And if we left the investigation there, we would all come to the same conclusion as Jeremy and “get rid of all health and safety equipment because it’s injuring people”. However, we need to look at the human behaviour model, those unintended errors that we all make, to really understand what happened. Kaleb made a classic Error in Action, or slip – an unintentional error where he simply forgot he was wearing the harness. There's no blame here, as errors are often systemic rather than purely individual. But understanding these errors is key to creating safer workplaces. It's about more than just having the right equipment; it's about how people interact with it. This fascinating world of behavioural safety is a key reason I went to university at 48 to study psychology. Let's use Kaleb's experience as a learning opportunity to improve safety, not as an excuse to ditch the equipment designed to protect us or apportion blame where it’s not warranted. https://lnkd.in/e6X_irf5

This week for Safety Month, we’re focusing on Risk Reduction. At Grede, our STOP (Stop, Think, Observe, Plan) Observation program helps identify and address safety risks by engaging employees in conversations about safe behaviors. Managers and supervisors, trained every three years, complete at least one weekly observation. We document the results, review the trends, and communicate them to shape our safety strategies. In 2023, we completed 17,000 observations across Grede, showing our commitment to safety. #NationalSafetyMonth #NSM #RiskReduction #Safety, National Safety Council
