Never keep valuable information to yourself. It benefits no one. This is true in your personal life... But it's also true in your career. Last week, I landed an internship with EXCELERATE and was beyond excited. I shared this news with my ALX Cohort 5 group, along with the application link for anyone interested. I didn't think much of it; I was sharing an opportunity that had worked for me, hoping it might help someone else, too. A few days later, Caroline Kavoi from the group messaged me. They used the link and applied for the internship. Guess what? They got in! I was thrilled. It felt like a win for both of us as if we were all moving forward together. This experience reaffirmed something I hold dear: when you help others win, you win, too. We don't lose anything by sharing opportunities. In fact, we all rise higher when we're lifting others. I absolutely love how people here on #LinkedIn are so generous with information. Also a big shout-out to Akakan Umoh and the group members for always sharing incredible insights in our Professional LinkedIn Growth Squad group, it's these kinds of efforts that accelerate our LinkedIn growth and help us all thrive. 🌟 Reflecting on my first week at Insitu Inc! 🌟 It's been an incredible journey so far during my internship, and I'm eager to share three key lessons that have already made a big impact: 1. *Build Relationships*: Take the time to connect with everyone. Not only have I learned a lot from my mentor, but also from colleagues across different departments! It is always interesting to see what is going on throughout the company as a whole. Each conversation offers unique insights and opportunities to learn beyond your immediate role. 2. *Embrace Curiosity*: Asking questions has been a game-changer. It's okay not to have all the answers right away; in fact, it's expected! The way to stand out is to ask questions and admit when you need help. You may need to ask for a walk through on something seemingly simple, but remember, it's your first time and they don't expect you to be Senior Analyst IV. 3. *Stay Organized*: Keeping track of what I've learned, ongoing questions, people I've met, and achievements has been crucial. I personally like to use OneNote for this but something as simple as a Google document will do the trick. The key is to capture insights while they're fresh to reflect on later. I hope these insights resonate with fellow interns and inspire future interns alike! I'm grateful for the warm welcome and support from the Insitu and Boeing team. Man, the next generation is truly remarkable! Overseeing the internship program at Ziplyne for 6 years has been an incredible journey and here is our cohort for 2024! Each year, I've witnessed talent and dedication surpassing the last. At Ziplyne, we prioritize hard work, determination, and excellent communication/passion in selecting our interns. Our summer session is in full swing, promising exciting outcomes ahead. Selfishly, it's to keep Ziplyne relevant across ages/generations. We are building a product that is timeless in my mind/vision. And as a byproduct of this work, these interns become ambassadors, engaging their networks and spreading the word about Ziplyne whether it is at the gym, in school, at family gatherings, etc. So the more time & energy you invest in them there is an actual social sense of return. To be honest, the gratification in running this program comes from hearing Parents who text or call me to personally share appreciation for the opportunity and are eager to attend demo days, supporting their child's growth and our initiatives. One thing I over emphasize during the 3 month internship, is to make sure that our interns can actually articulate and explain what it is we do, and how their projects play a role in our growth. Equipping our future generation to communicate and articulate what Ziplyne does for their future employer interviews is a high priority and something I take very seriously. To ensure this, we include our HR team and provide a resume workshop and LinkedIn recommendations for all of our interns to give them a foundation for their futures. NextGen Hustle Program: A Grand Business Opportunity by ITQON Group. Last Saturday, we had an amazing session at the NextGen Hustle Program, organized as part of Itqon Group’s Nationwide BOP (Business Opportunity Program). The main purpose? To recruit more young blood into the takaful industry and show them just how rewarding this career can be. The energy in the room was insane! Everyone came with their own candidates, ready to share their personal journeys in the takaful industry, and give them a real look into what it’s all about. This wasn’t just any ordinary recruitment event—it was about inspiring the next generation to step up and grab the opportunities that are right in front of them. Now, here’s the best part for me personally. I managed to get my brother to come along as one of the candidates (okay, fine, maybe I pestered him a bit!). He’s currently doing his internship at an engineering company in Melaka and has one more semester before he graduates. And let me tell you, he’s a real smarty pants—not once has he missed making the Dean’s List. I’m super proud of him, but the real reason I dragged him to this event? He’s money-driven. Always has been. And I just know that this business is going to suit him perfectly. So yeah, this event wasn’t just about the industry—it was about bringing people together, sharing real opportunities, and maybe even changing some lives along the way. Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Lognext, a technological consulting firm that works with prestigious clients such as Securitas Direct, BNP Paribas, Inditex, and Mutua Madrileña. During my time at Lognext, I gained invaluable insights into both the operations and financial departments. Here are some key highlights: 🔍 Financial Department: I was able to participate in the workings of the financial department, attending daily meetings and understanding the intricacies of the team's strategies. Three major takeaways from this experience were: - Budget vs. Actual Comparison: Always compare everything with the budget to ensure financial health. - Margin vs. Markup: Understanding the critical difference between these two concepts. - Data Analysis: The importance of always analysing the data for informed decision-making. 🛠️ Operations Department: In the operations department, I had the chance to observe the selection process, learn how to attract new clients and consultants, and participate in daily meetings. I also saw how interviews work from the employer's perspective. My top three takeaways here were: - Continuous Improvement: Always strive for continuous improvement in every process. - Client Relationship Management: The significance of maintaining strong client relationships and the techniques for client retention. - Holistic Perspective: The importance of viewing situations from different angles and thoroughly analysing all perspectives. Overall, my internship at Lognext was incredibly enriching. I actively participated in daily meetings, observed team dynamics, and learned from experienced professionals. This experience provided me with a deeper understanding of how a technological consulting firm operates, particularly in both the operations and financial departments. I gained valuable practical knowledge and skills that will undoubtedly benefit my future career. I am sincerely grateful to Longext and all the supportive team members who guided me throughout this journey.
