While developing an exit gallery, the tunnel encountered a substantial influx of water, posing a challenge to the excavation process. To address this issue, Weber employed a rapid-setting, water-reactive resin by strategically positioning boreholes around the excavation perimeter. Following a drilling template aligned with the excavation direction, the resin was introduced to displace water from the excavation area, streamlining subsequent blasting operations. Notably, despite the considerable water flow, the resin's 30-second reaction time and 5-fold expansion rate upon contact with water enabled it to swiftly stop water ingress along the entire length of the excavation advance. After more than three months of digging (first by dry excavation, then by wet excavation), the pit excavation has been completed. The construction pit of the PALLAS-reactor is now cleared from sand, clay, and peat, but water remains in the pit up to the groundwater level. In the next step, the drilling of 380 foundation piles to a depth of -47.0 NAP will be started. While there is still water in the pit, the 33-metre-long piles will be drilled from the pontoon, the SI-pile crane is using a pile cleaning device to accurately position the drilling pile on the bottom.

Good technique, it can be done in empty land where there are no existing utilities. When considering blind drilling may cause damage to the existing services. The safer way is to excavate trench identify the clear corridor before installation of new pipes.

"There is already a post there so there wont be anything in the way of a new post hole" It's a common misconception that its completely safe to re-dig an existing hole, however that isn't always the case! Dredging is the process of using floating machinery to excavate a placer deposit underwater. Depending on how material is transported, dredging techniques can be either mechanical or hydraulic. In pure hydraulic dredging systems, the digging and lifting force is either pure suction, suction with hydrojet assistance, or completely hydrojet. They are most suited for mining modest amounts of loose material, such as sand and gravel, marine shell deposits, mill tailings, and unconsolidated overburden. Another mechanical technique, the clamshell dredge, is distinguished by a sizable single bucket that runs at the end of cables. Its downside is that, while it can handle huge particles and trash well and function in deeper water than other systems, it is a discontinuous, batch-type device that takes about one bite every minute. The most adaptable technique for dredging in various situations is still the bucket-ladder, sometimes known as the bucket-line, dredge, which has been the standard placer-mining instrument. Excavation safety and the importance of "Zone of influence".. ✅Zone of influence (zone susceptible to ground collapse) usually measured at 45 degrees from base of excavation and it depends on ground conditions and soil type (site specific). ⚠️As a general rule, all loads and barricades must be placed at least 1m from the zone of influence. ‼️All powered mobile plant SHOULD NOT operate or travel near the edge of excavation (within zone of influence) unless the installed ground support system is designed to carry the plant operating loads.
