In honor of #DisabilityPrideMonth and the 34th anniversary of the signing of the ADA members of equitABLE, our Business Resource Group for people with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses, shared their thoughts on what being part of the group means to them.

EquitABLE means creating a space in which people can be exactly who they are, whether they have ten fingers or just two. To me, equitABLE is a community where I can bring my whole self. Everyone has different disabilities, different chronic illnesses, but we just get each other. And I can bring my experiences as someone living with multiple sclerosis to our client work, and that's an expertise that I might not have been comfortable bringing to the workplace before we had our BRG. equitABLE is one of my favorite spaces, a community where I can relate with others about what it's like to be a person with a disability �� in life, at work, everywhere. equitABLE to me is about safety. It's about providing that open-armed network where our people can show up as they are, with their comfort level as it is, and be honest about the things that they're facing. Their We have a mix of all different types of backgrounds in our community, and it makes it such a special and valuable place. Not only does it create an inclusive and accessible space for all of us to grow, whether you have a visible, invisible or sometimes visible disability. It also betters our work. It allows us to bring diverse perspectives, viewpoints and experiences through to our clients' work and it makes them more accessible and inclusive and makes the world a more accessible and inclusive place. I love it.

What is ableism? The belief that people with disabilities are inferior to those without disabilities – and that being nondisabled is the standard of "normal living".
