This one hits close to home. Did you know 1 in 5 of us will face a mental health issue this year? And even worse, over half (55%) never get the help they need. Suicide rates are also way up (16% increase since 2011 according to the Kauffman Foundation). This is a serious crisis. Here's the thing: my friend Levi Sales has been working on a project for the past year to try and make a dent in this mental health mess. But he can't do it alone. If you've ever dealt with mental illness, either yourself or with someone you care about, I have a favor to ask. It would be a HUGE help if you could take 5-10 minutes to fill out this quick survey (link below). It's not about specifics of your illness, but more about the journey of finding help. And hey, even if you haven't been personally affected, sharing this post would be amazing! The more data we have, the better we can tackle this problem. Thanks in advance for your help! https://lnkd.in/eKRN_ZPB

Thank you Natasha Bowman, JD, SPHR for sharing your story and helping to dismantle the stigma of bipolar disorder in the workplace. From the article: "Nearly 3% of US adults have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, defined as having severe and lasting depressive and manic episodes. (Sometimes the mania is milder, known as hypomania.) So any organization with more than 100 employees likely contains some staff who grapple with the illness, and they may or may not be diagnosed, or even aware they have it." I, too, have started to publicly talk about living with bipolar disorder for several reasons: (1) I want people to know it's OK to take care of their mental health. (2) I want people to see that stability is attainable. (3) I want to break the stigma. +++ If you or someone you know is struggling, please know there is help out there. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a wonderful organization. It offers support groups for various illnesses. For a Seattle specific helpline, call or text 425-298-5315 or email helpline@namiseattle.org. If you are in crisis, please go to the hospital, call 911 or the national suicide and crisis lifeline at 988. #mentalhealth #breakthestigma #bipolar #depression #disability #mentalhealthmatters
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. As you know, I am a suicide attempt survivor and am also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I have shared my story publicly for several reasons, but more so to encourage others to take care of their mental health and to break the stigma of living with a serious mental illness. I appreciate those of you who have helped me on this mission. Today, I'd like to thank Matthew Boyle for writing an article on How To Manage Bipolar in the Workplace in his Bloomberg newsletter, Work Shift, which features my story and my friend, Andy Dunn. Take a few minutes to read, and if you want to learn more about managing people with mental health conditions in your workplace, I'd love to partner with you. The link to the article is in the comments.

Unshared stories = disconnected wisdom, so tell me yours and I'll tell you mine. Hope is revelatory. I blast hip hop in my minivan and I wear my vulnerability on my sleeveless denim shirt.
It's #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and that includes self-awareness. This is a wonderful online screening test that can help you identify potential mental health conditions -- so you can get the help you need. It can be scary to realize we have challenges that are bigger than us, that we can't control, that we can't solve by ourselves, that we didn't ask for. But as the saying goes, "Knowing is half the battle. G. I. Joe!" 😂 Jokes aside, take the test. See where you are. And then access any of the online resources on this site, or DM me. And if you're in immediate crisis, text or call 988. Love y'all. Mean it. https://lnkd.in/erjJZ9Ft

🌧️ Feeling Down? You're Not Alone 🌧️ Depression is more than just feeling sad, it's a serious condition that affects millions of people. It can make even the simplest tasks feel overwhelming and isolate you from those around you. Remember: ▪ 1 in 5 people will experience significant depression in their lifetime. ▪ It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. ▪ You don't have to go through it alone. Support and treatment are available. If you're struggling, reach out to a friend, family member, or mental health professional. Sharing your feelings is the first step toward healing. Part of the remedy is to get active, do something different and enjoyable. (Why not get along to a Mr Perfect BBQ and meet some new mates over a sausage sandwich or burger?) Please note, Mr Perfect is not a clinical or crisis service. Need more than our social BBQs? View our Men’s Health Directory or call your local GP/mental health professional. Today, we remember that mental health matters, and that no one should ever feel alone in their struggles. World Suicide Prevention Day is a time to raise awareness, offer support, and promote understanding for those who are suffering. By listening, showing compassion, and breaking the stigma around mental health, we can make a difference in someone's life. I lost a dear friend during the pandemic to mental illness. He was the last person anyone would expect, always full of energy and positivity. This loss reminds me how crucial it is to open up and encourage others to talk. In my opinion, good communication and being there to truly listen is the best form of prevention. Let’s be there for one another, break the stigma, and make sure no one suffers in silence. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlone #ListenToEachOther #SupportMentalHealth #WSPD

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. I debated posting this due to the topic's sensitivity. But after some reflection, I felt it was important to recognize the significance of mental health, especially during times of uncertainty. Whether you’re employed, unemployed, or somewhere in between, mental health matters. We often forget the power of simple acts of kindness, but they can truly make a difference. Today, I offer a friendly reminder to check in with your friends, show compassion, smile at a stranger walking down the street, offer a kind word, or just be there when someone needs it. These simple gestures can mean more than we realize. 💛 Let’s continue to spread kindness, lift each other up, and recognize that we’re all navigating our own challenges. Your support might just be the light someone needs today. #worldsuicidepreventionday #mentalhealthmatters #bekind #spreadkindness
