FIFA announced the calendar of 104 games for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Together he informed the 16 stadiums used during the tournament and their respective host cities. This will be the first World Cup organized by three countries, in 16 cities: 11 in the USA, three in Mexico and two in Canada. FIFA has separated the matches into three main areas — West, Central and East Coast — and each of the 48 teams will play the first phase within one of these regions. The teams will be divided into 12 groups in the initial phase. The two best countries in each group and the eight best third-placed countries will advance to the second phase, starting the knockout stage. The group stage will have 72 games, in all venues, and will take place between June 11th and 27th. The first part of the knockout stage will run from June 28th to July 3rd, in 14 cities. The round of 16 will take place in eight stadiums, between July 4th and 7th. The World Cup will only take place in the United States from the quarter-finals onwards. The last four game days of the group stage will feature six matches per day. All other dates in this stage of the World Cup will have four games per day. #Hospitality #GSM #WorldSoccerTournament2026 #Football #Soccer

The Canadian Women's soccer team, current Olympic champions, is on to the quarter-finals in Paris. This video speaks more about the scandal that cost the team 6 points in penalties from FIFA. The team was flying drones over the practices of their opponents to spy on them. From Emails that became public earlier today, it is clear that the team has been doing this for years despite some people raising objections to the practice of spying. Canadian coaches called it "scouting". I prefer the term "spying with drones" because that is what was really happening. The coaches involved said that all the top 10 teams do it. I don't know if this is true or a rationalization. I suspect it is the latter. And, they were suspended by FIFA for one year. Anyway, the players did not know anything about it and they showed their grit by advancing in their group to the next round. Canada had to win all of its games in regulation plus extra time. They could not get a draw because that would have meant they would not have enough points to advance after the FIFA penalties. What they did is really quite an accomplishment because only 2 other teams were undefeated in the opening round. Canada will now play Germany, which is ranked number 5 in the world. This will be an excellent test for Canada. But, now the team will not be eliminated even if they are tied after regulation and extra time. https://lnkd.in/gP2UBvsu
