The flow of rainwater that you see in the video is linked to the broken canalization system of #Nangarhar #province #Afghanistan . When it rains, instead of being stored and utilized when needed, the water is wasted on the city roads, leading to its complete loss. #Imagine a world where every drop of rain is cherished and utilized to benefit our communities. In our quest to save rainfall water, we can implement simple yet impactful initiatives in our towns and neighborhoods. One humanized concept involves creating community rainwater harvesting systems. By installing rain barrels or cisterns in our homes and public spaces, we can collect and store rainwater for various uses such as watering gardens, washing cars, or even flushing toilets. This not only helps conserve precious water resources but also reduces the strain on municipal water supplies. Furthermore, we can promote the use of permeable surfaces in our towns, such as permeable pavements and green spaces. These surfaces allow rainwater to infiltrate the ground instead of running off into storm drains, replenishing groundwater and reducing the risk of flooding. Educating and engaging community members is also key. By raising awareness about the importance of saving rainfall water and providing simple tips on how to do so, we can inspire collective action and foster a culture of water conservation in our communities. Together, through these humanized efforts, we can transform our towns into water-wise communities that not only value every drop of rain but also work together to ensure a sustainable and resilient future for all. FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) 🌿Small Network Grants🌿are now available to community organisations in remote, rural and regional Australia to develop and deliver one-off events or initiatives to strengthen community networks and capabilities that build drought preparedness. Applications close 26 March 2024. Successful applications announced June 2024. Projects operate between June 2024-June 2025. Through this initiative, with the support of the Australian Government, FRRR are investing in the future by enabling agriculture-dependent communities to identify and act on their drought preparedness priorities at a grassroots level and in ways that best suit their communities. The Small Network Grants will fund networks, community events, training initiatives, community infrastructure, development and learning initiatives that assist local people and communities to strengthen social capital and capability to prepare for future droughts. Grants are available across two rounds in : – Stream 1: Grants up to a maximum of $20,000; or – Stream 2: Grants up to a maximum of $50,000 (dependent on location). Looking back at Kachi Sadak Foundation’s pilot program on rain water harvesting. We feel elated to have learnt so much in this journey which we want to share with you all. Benefits that we learnt of from this project’s successful implementation are as follows : a. 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 of clean rain water for household purposes cleaned through 𝟮 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 and collected from rooftop. b. Excess water discharge to 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲. c. Jonathan Boyd just posted that the average snow pack across BC is historically low. For the Cowichan watershed, it is even worse at 25% of the historical average. This is very worrying for the Cowichan River... but there is hope! Partial funding has been secured and a design is ready to raise the weir at Lake Cowichan and increase water storage. I hope this project moves forward soon! Can we say a country like PNG is overpopulated? I disagree. 1. Look to the hills, there aren't people living there. 2. Look at villages, there's few people there. 3. Look at the roads, there's fewer people on the sidewalk then there are moving vehicles. When we are overpopulated it means there isn't enough space to move around. I only see overpopulation in a packed stadium, in a bus, at a bus stop, in ques like the bank, and maybe the hospitals. Otherwise, I'm walking and breathe freely. Is PNG so overpopulated as stated in the newspaper. There is always balance in nature, people die to make way for new life, natural disaster occur maybe for the reason of balancing overpopulation. If that was the case, flies and ants could have over populated us by now. I believe this narrative that we are overpopulated was a western concept and because cities needing to expand versus there weren't enough resources resulted in the term, my own thinking.
