Meet Sarah Tarawally and MOHAMED KICKENDE CONTEH, who will lead our upcoming tree-planting project “Re-afforesting Freetown City” Freetown City is one among many other places in Sierra Leone vulnerable to climate change. The city recorded one of its hottest temperatures ((39℃)(102℉)) in 2016, with current temperature constant at 28℃ (82.4℉) and 29℃ (84.2℉). This has led to dehydration, migraine, brain malfunction, etc., among the city’s residents, demonstrating the need for urgent measures. As a social enterprise, Route 360 Solutions Initiative is committed to making the city more greener and climate friendly. We are open to partnerships for this initiative. Contact us via email at info@route360solutionsinitiative.com or by phone at 232-77426949. #route360solutionsinitiative #treeplanting #ClimateAction #FreetownCity #Sustainability

Cities have to do with human settlements. When human beings are concentrated in a relatively smaller area, they become particularly vulnerable to climate impacts like flash floods and heavy rains, likewise heatwaves and the urban heat island effect, given that most of cities is concrete, brick and mortar. Lack of enough green spaces to regulate air quality and cool it, and also absorb excess water is another problem in cities. But cities are also the hotbed of climate innovation. I wrote a post about here, see: #cities #climatechange #climateaction https://lnkd.in/gjCQwqN

How can cooling individual homes tie to a broader #ecosystem impact? While urban cooling is crucial for immediate benefits and education, most land for #MEER implementation lies in #agricultural areas, which cover a third of the global landmass. #Climate #Sustainability

Embracing the Cape Town heat as a reminder of our collective responsibility towards a sustainable future! As we bask in the warmth of this Cape Town heat, it's not just an opportunity to soak up the sun, but also a call to reflect on our role in building a sustainable future. The rising temperatures underscore the urgent need for climate action and environmentally conscious choices. Let's use this moment to recommit ourselves to sustainable practices. Whether it's reducing our water usage and carbon footprint, supporting eco-friendly initiatives, or advocating for policies that prioritise the environment, each small step contributes to a bigger change. Let's continue discussions around climate resilience, renewable energy, and responsible consumption. Stay cool, stay eco-conscious, and let's shape a brighter, greener future! 🌿☀️ #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalResponsibility

‘What if there was a system that has the power to say what our communities and infrastructure will be like in the future? That lays out where cycle routes go, what roads are built (or not built), what housing and community facilities are needed, where green corridors and nature reserves could be, where energy is going to be generated and transmitted, and more? In short, if there was a system laying out what the future looks like – and whether that future is one compatible with dealing with the climate crisis – wouldn’t it be worth putting everything we can into it?’ Kat Jones from APRS writes in our latest blog, Planning to save the planet, about Scotland's new planning system the National Planning Framework 4. She thinks it’s a system that could radically and effectively address the environmental and nature crises and make sure the transformational changes we need happen. Urban areas are home to over half of the global population, and by 2050, an additional 2.5 billion people are projected to join them. As the intensity, frequency, and duration of extreme heat events continue to escalate, our cities are increasingly vulnerable to the devastating impacts. The time to act is NOW, before it's too late.🌍 #UrbanResilience #ClimateAction #SustainableCities #FutureOfCities #HeatWaves #ClimateCrisis #ActNow https://lnkd.in/g8nH7qzt..
