On March 29, the Sustainability Standards Board of Japan (SSBJ) released the exposure drafts of its upcoming sustainability and climate-related disclosure standards, which are building on the ISSB standards. Here are some highlights: - On Scope 2, it requires dual reporting of location-based and market-based methods. - On Scope 3, it requires separate reporting for each of the 15 categories of Scope 3 emissions. The current drafts are open for public comment until July 31. As new sustainability regulations emerge, identifying how they align can be incredibly beneficial. Not only does this lower sustainability regulation fatigue, but it also enhances the rigour of your sustainability strategy. The EU's CSRD and CSDDD clearly differ in focus–one aims at transparency, while the other seeks tangible outcomes. However, their shared emphasis on environmental and social impacts creates significant compatibility. CSRD and CSDDD can be incorporated into a single sustainability assessment and activity implementation cycle. Where the CSRD is about reporting, the CSDDD will require companies to take action to identify and mitigate negative impacts and risks in their chain of activities.

🌍 Upcoming Sustainability Reporting Standard for Governments 🌍 Exciting developments are on the horizon! The International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) is set to release a proposed sustainability reporting standard for governments next month. This new standard will address the unique responsibilities governments have in managing climate risks and setting expectations through policy. While based on private-sector sustainability standards, the public-sector version will include sector-specific guidance to cover the policy-making, monitoring, and enforcement roles of governments. The goal is to ensure consistent and comparable reporting on climate impacts across the globe. With governments playing a critical role in shaping climate-related policies, this new framework will be a major step forward in addressing global sustainability challenges. 🌿 Stay tuned for more updates! #Sustainability #ClimateChange #IPSASB #PublicSector #Governance #AccountingStandards #SustainabilityReporting https://lnkd.in/g7UeYJEw

A very useful report on #sustainability, also a website worth adding to your bookmarks (#EEA, European Environment Agency). This report highlights, among other things, the complexity in designing policies to support sustainability #transitions in societies where discontinuities are often ignored: indeed, the prevailing assumption seems to be that the future will be an extrapolation of the present and recent past.

🌱 The concept of #sustainability, understood as the ability of a system to maintain itself in equilibrium, first emerged during the 1972 UN Conference in Stockholm. At this occasion, human responsibility for the #environment and the need to implement preventive policies to safeguard #ecosystems was recognised. Subsequently, the 1987 report "Our Common Future" defined sustainable development as "development that ensures that the needs of present generations are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". 💡According to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), more than 70 per cent of large #companies publish sustainability reports that include environmental indicators. Structuring a path to environmental sustainability, starting with an appropriate strategy, is therefore now indispensable for companies today. 6moGreat step forward, along with other investor-protecting reforms by TSE. I look very much forward to seeing the requirements for scope 3 emissions in the final version after public consultation as many jurisdictions pull back on full coverage for this. Thanks Wee-Kean Fong !
