Here's what she had to say about Mane Hook-Up & and some of her words of wisdom for anyone building a marketplace: 💛 Why are you a champion of Mane Hook-Up? Mane Hook-Up is pioneering the future of haircare for the black and curly-haired community. Hair is an essential part of a black woman's DNA. It's a way of living, identity, and expression. As an Ethiopian, a black woman, and an African American living in the US, some of the earliest fond memories I share with my mother (and other women in our family) was having my hair braided while I sat in my mother's lap. A very fond and dear memory that I hold, one that I cherish more now than ever. I used to begrudgingly get my hair done but now it's an honor and a reflection of who I am as a person. Mane Hook-Up is solving one of the most personal issues I, and others like myself, could face and has gone unsolved for far too long. I'm not only championing Mane Hook-up but the entire community and the vitality of haircare in every black woman's curly-haired life. 💇🏾♀️ How do you think we can change the game for the afro/curly hair industry? Mane Hook-up can revolutionize hair care for the black community. There are benefits both to the stylists and the consumer. As for the stylists, we are revolutionizing the black haircare industry by levelling up what is considered acceptable, pushing to bring better service to the consumer and a well-thought-out company dedicated to servicing a niche that has gone without the proper financial support and focus.  💻 What’s your top tip for Founders who are building marketplace products? It's just as important to know when to take advice and not to take it. Founders will be bombarded with advice, internally and externally, on their company and product. It requires a nuanced dance to know when to take advice or not, especially in areas that you're not an expert in. But advice can be just as beneficial as it can be detrimental. Came across this interesting videos discussing Beyoncé's new haircare line and couldn't help but notice the diverse opinions. Despite Beyonce massive influence, there seems to be a mix of feelings among consumers. It's fascinating to see how marketing strategies and authentic connections impact consumer perceptions. Let's dive into this beauty conversation! While many consumer like the packaging, not everyone agrees on the price. This caught my interest because, compared to other popular luxury brands, the price difference isn't huge. However, consumers trust those brands more due to positive reviews and established trust. I think showing Beyoncé using the product in a more genuine setting, without the usual glamour, could change consumers opinion. Some consumers used Fenty Beauty's success, as an example which I thought was a great example consumers found Rihanna relatable her authentic approach, trying products in her bathroom, resonates with consumers. One that is very close to my heart is our #MyHairAMiModo campaign. A campaign that embodies the special meaning and privilege it is to work on Dove. Giving us the opportunity to challenge stereotypes and redefine Beauty. Recent Dove research uncovered that 9 in 10 women feel pressure to style their hair according to society's expectations. When you think of the deep emotional meaning of hair, the way it tells your story, brings out your personality, builds your confidence… this is something that needed to be addressed. As a community with diverse hair profiles, this pressure is deeply felt among Latinas, who have been responding by using their voices to champion hair self-expression – especially on social media. To celebrate these efforts and continue to drive the conversation, Dove has launched #MyHairAMiModo. Teaming up with Li Saumet from Bomba Estéreo to re-record their viral hit “Soy Yo” with updated verses that speak directly to hair positivity, with a new music video that truly captures what #MyHairAMiModo is all about. CÉCRED by Beyoncé is proof you need to listen to your audience Beyoncé recently launched a hair care brand called CÉCRED however a big majority of her audience didn’t trust her enough to buy from her and here were the main two reasons: 👉🏾 They knew Beyoncé for wearing wigs the majority of the time and thought they had never even seen her with her natural hair 👉🏾 Beyoncé doesn’t talk to her fans anymore so they feel a bit disconnected with her and her brand. How are u going to sell us something without talking to us? And here’s what Beyoncé and her team did: 👉🏾 They made an entire video showing how Beyoncé uses CÉCRED on her natural hair while having Beyoncé doing a voice-over talking about the products and her hair journey The result: ✨ People who were on the fence before definitely weren’t anymore. She was able to connect with her fans and build a level of trust. This just shows that no matter how big you are you need to EARN the trust of your audience. It is now easily given to you.
