Dear colleagues, Interesting findings from a recent study published in Medical Science Monitor shed light on the connection between patient safety and the rationing of nursing care. This systematic review of 15 studies highlights the inverse relationship between rationing of nursing care and patient safety. When nursing care is rationed, there is a higher incidence of falls, medication errors, pressure ulcers, infections, and readmissions. The study also emphasizes the impact of workload, staffing levels, and experience on rationing of nursing care. These findings underscore the importance of effective strategies to prevent rationing of nursing care, including improving staffing levels, workload management, and communication among healthcare providers. #PatientSafety #HealthcareResearch #NursingCare #MedicalScienceMonitor | https://lnkd.in/d-DYFDUB

I recently Attended Press Ganey’s Nursing Excellence Workshop - Insights into Action: A Path to Strengthen Workforce Engagement and Patient Experience Through Compassionate Connected Care at #HX24 in Orlando, FL Here are my takeaways on #PatientExperience: 1. HCAHPS is not a measure of happiness. It is about engaging patients which results in safer care and better outcomes. 2. Narrating care helps patients know what to expect and explains what is happening. 3. A goal of 90% is not good enough when we are talking about patient safety. If 90% of our staff meet 90% of behavior expectations 90% of the time, we are only delivering at 73%. The key to reliability is consistency. EVERY Patient, EVERY Time! 4. The best way to alleviate fear and anxiety for a patient is by making a human connection. 5. Avoidable suffering stems from defects in care and can be prevented by optimizing care delivery. 6. Fixing things is not always the right answer. Sometimes we just need to listen and empathize. 7. How we communicate with the patient and each other influences the perceptions of how well the team works together. Thank you Jeff Doucette DNP, RN, FACHE, FAAN Nicole George Kathy Barry DNP, MHA, RN, NEA-BC Mary Jo Assi Patrick Ryan for providing nursing leaders with tools to optimize the human experience!

Recently, our team published a white paper, Critical Access Hospital Swing-Bed Programs Outperform Skilled Nursing Facilities on Quality Performance. The white paper was based on three years of data from our Swing-Bed Quality Reporting Program for CAHs and a comparison to similar data that SNFs reported to CMS. Key results include: - 73.6% of CAH swing bed patients were discharged to their community, significantly exceeding SNFs’ rate of 49.7% - 8% of CAH swing-bed patients experienced unplanned returns to acute care, compared to SNFs' 11.4% - 9.2% of CAH swing-bed patients had returned to acute care within 30 days post-discharge, whereas SNFs' rate stood at 10.5% Learn more here: https://hubs.li/Q02NJVH70 #StroudwaterAssociates #RuralHealthcare
