Disheartening News: A Call for Accountability in Equestrian Sports The deeply troubling news about Charlotte Dujardin, a name once synonymous with excellence in dressage. A multiple World and Olympic champion, Dujardin has long been a beacon of achievement and inspiration in the equestrian world. My daughter, like many others, admired her greatly, viewing her as a role model who embodied the pinnacle of equestrian success. However, recent video footage depicting clear abuse is horrifying and unacceptable. This news is not only disheartening but also a stark reminder of the pressing need for stricter monitoring and regulation within the sport. Horses and ponies, our incredible partners, are sentient beings deserving of the utmost respect, love, and care. As someone deeply committed to their well-being, I have always ensured that my own horses and ponies receive the highest standard of treatment in return for their boundless loyalty. As a prominent female leader in the equestrian industry, Dujardin's actions must be scrutinized and held accountable. It is crucial for the integrity of our sport and for the young riders looking up to role models like her. They need to understand that such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. This situation serves as a reminder that we must collectively strive to uphold the highest standards of conduct across all industries. We cannot allow harmful practices to persist, and we must work together to foster environments where respect and ethical treatment are paramount. I hope that this matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken to prevent any recurrence. Our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of animals and maintaining integrity in sports is essential. Let's ensure that the values of compassion and respect guide our actions and decisions, setting a positive example for future generations. #Equestrian #AnimalWelfare #IntegrityInSports #Accountability #RespectForAnimals #InclusiveExcellence #HighStandardsForAll #EquityAndExcellence #DiversityAndIntegrity #RespectAndAccountability #IntegrityInAction #InclusivityMatters #StandardsOfExcellence #EthicalLeadership #EmpowerThroughRespect #InclusiveWorkplace #QualityAndDiversity #AccountabilityInAction #InclusiveStandards #CommitToExcellence #EthicsAndInclusion #ProfessionalIntegrity #RespectInAllFields #InclusiveExcellence #HighEthicalStandards

🚨 Traumatic Brain Injuries in Horse Sports: Can Safety Measures Reduce the Risks? 🏇 Horse sports, while thrilling and competitive, are among the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The recent tragic death of British event rider Georgie Campbell has reignited concerns over safety in these sports. 🔎 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ High Risk: Horse sports involve significant risk due to the size and unpredictability of horses, leading to severe injuries in the event of falls. 2️⃣ Safety Innovations: Safety measures such as better helmets, vests, and frangible pins have reduced some risks, but the sport still demands constant vigilance and improvement. 3️⃣ Personal Stories: Riders like Marie Vonderheyden, who recovered from a severe TBI to compete in para-dressage, highlight the dangers and the resilience within the equestrian community. 4️⃣ Regulatory Efforts: Organizations are focusing on improving rider training, fitness, and equipment safety to minimize accidents. Recent initiatives include research projects using sensors to study the factors contributing to falls. Additionally, there is a crucial need for better screening, treatment, and diagnostic tools for traumatic brain injuries. Intact and healthy horse legs are of utmost importance when walking, trotting and cantering. They are a necessary prerequisite for carrying the rider's weight. Thermal images speak a very clear language: wrapping horses legs cause heat to build up and harmful vessel compression. The consequences are impaired energy/ nutrient availability and tissue necrosis. There exist clear scientific evidence that show the harmfulness of stable bandages, transport bandages and training bandages, as well as naming incorrect training as the cause for swollen legs. The scientific recommendation for increasing the welfare of horses is doubtless and very clear: omit wraps in any situation. The Dutch Equestrian Association has completely banned wraps from competitions as of April 1, 2024. Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung e.V. (FN) - Why are changes lacking in Germany? Why leg wraps are still commonly used in the preparation of dressage or at winners ceremonies?

Horse people everywhere in Germany come across the #do it ride initiative. The description states that the goal is to "cover up negative headlines" in equestrian sports. That is a bizarre strategy – try to dilute negative headlines with positive ones instead of initiating a real change?! Implementation of 1. non-violent riding and handling of horses 2. species-appropriate husbandry and feeding 3. preventive health management is necessary Let's have a look at the change management approach: The good thing is, with the "#do it ride" initiative, even the last person noticed that horse people have to change! But since the system is lacking self-criticism, everyone will regret to be the one who has to change. I suggest to start at the top: When did the Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung e.V. (FN) stop listening to the majority of its members (Eck, 2024)? When did the FN stop following scientific advice? When did the FN start to soften its own recommendations? Just as an example: The article in the PM forum (official journal) "Sensible or straitjacket?" cannot remain uncommented because auxiliary reins that are long-time banned in equestrian sport are presented with advantages (and disadvantages) including comments that professionals can use them. Some colleagues and I wrote a letter to the editor and got the following rejection: "The criticisms you mention are certainly justified, and we are aware that the topic of auxiliary reins divides the equestrian world. However, we believe that our article critically examines the world of auxiliary reins and lists many no-gos. " Many no-goes are not all! Using pics that reflect some no-goes and don't point them clearly out won't help to initiate a change. It is scientifically proven that horses suffer from a lack of knowledge about how to correctly use auxiliary reins. https://lnkd.in/eGuUSVJf Equestrian sport must pay stricter attention to compliance with the rules not soften rules, especially not for professionals! Start implementation of scientific recommendations now, faster the better to improve horses welfare.

𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗢𝗖 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 Horse owners and trainers at the OC Fair and Event Center's equestrian facilities have been issued eviction notices, creating uncertainty about their next steps. These notices come amid efforts by the Center to implement significant changes, including potential rebranding and rental agreement modifications. The evictions are perceived by many as abrupt and unfair, particularly as they were issued without a prior formal decision by the Fair Board, which controls the property. This situation has sparked significant concern and frustration among the equestrian community as they face the challenge of relocating their horses and operations.
