I truly love teaching about Self-Care and all the strategies that can help to give our body, brain and spirit a REST and/or fills us with JOY! They work 100%. One game is to learn to look after yourself, another game is to influence the environment that contributes to the heightened and non-stop high stress level. As a leader and organisation it is our responsibility to honestly look at the systems, dynamics and operation which contribute to an environment of stress. Let's ask ourselves: Are we creating an environment that invites people to say: "No, I don't have capacity to take on this task." As a leader - Have you ever pushed back to your upline to protect your team from overload? How often do you prioritise time for meaningful connection with your team or amongst your team? How many tasks are a directive telling and how much is a collective enquiry? This is a great article for reflection. How much is really in our control? I can't fully delegate self-care to the individual and then load them up with deadlines and unachievable task loads, meeting maniac and potentially a culture of blame or shame. We’ve known this for awhile! It is great employers are realizing that no matter how much self-care an employee invests outside of work hours, what happens during work hours has a significant effect on employee wellbeing. It is crucial that the organizational systems, policies, processes and team dynamics that enhance or detract from employee thriving are addressed. I.e. providing a quality stress management app is a good step, but it is equally essential to address, the things that are stressing employees out in the first place.
