Researchers from Stony Brook University and four other universities are joining together for a unique initiative to address #healthcare disparities in Latinx and migrant low-income communities. With a five-year $3.8 million grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), they aim to improve access to primary care for medically underserved populations. The study will focus on the social and legal hurdles these communities face when receiving medical services. By addressing health-harming legal needs, the project aims to make a positive impact on vulnerable communities affected by diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, HIV, asthma, substance use disorders, and more. This specialized course trains dental professionals in Oral Health Management for HIV/AIDS patients. It covers the link between HIV/AIDS and oral health, common issues, and pain management techniques. The course emphasizes the role of dentists in palliative care, crafting personalized care plans, and ethical considerations like stigma management and guideline adherence. Interactive learning is fostered through case studies.
