Here's Paul talking a little bit about our story!
Did you know that the Best Gin in Britain was made in Stockport? Meet Paul Sharrocks. Founder, owner and gin connoisseur of Stockport Gin in the heart of our town centre. He met his wife Cheryl on a cold, wet weekend in 2006 watching Stockport County. They both shared a love for gin and decided to crack on with a passion project together, learning the ropes of distilling and flavour combinations. Fast forward to now, and their business is attracting buyers to the shop, earning awards for the gin, and enrolling ‘students’ in their very own Gin School school upstairs. Still in need of a (very) last minute Christmas gift for someone you like a lot? If you fancy buying a bottle of something special or even a gin-making experience, Paul and Cheryl have enough for everyone to get excited about. Find them at 19B St. Petersgate. #stockport #gin #manchester #ontheup #comevisit #stockportgin #tourism

Did you know that beer boosts economic activity across Europe? 🍻 Beer is a vital driver of employment, particularly in the hospitality sector: think bars, restaurants and pubs. This sector plays a crucial role in creating jobs! When it comes to beer consumption volume, the retail market is bigger: around two-thirds of beer is sold in supermarkets, specialty stores, and other retail outlets, making its way into our homes. However, consumers are often willing to pay a premium in the hospitality sector for the service provided by bar staff, the chance to socialise, the inviting ambiance and other venue features. As a result, this leads to a higher consumption value within the hospitality sector. Want to dive deeper into how our industry fuels the European economy? Great piece in the Financial Times about the slow and steady recovery of the British pub 🍺 There's an interesting idea here that the pub is not a fixed thing - it changes and adapts to suit the needs of the time it’s in. The increase of pubs selling food has meant this is what consumers expect from their boozers now, and so many groups are changing their venues to align with this. Particularly heartening is companies like Heineken "reopening 62 [pubs] that closed in recent years and investing £40m on this and other refurbishments, such as improving gardens and expanding kitchens." And who can argue with more pubs? Just in time for summer as well ☀️ https://lnkd.in/erHJEpz4

👏 Thank you to Craig Hoy MSP (Convenor of the Cross Party Group on Beer and Pubs in the Scottish Parliament) for holding a parliamentary debate last week on the importance of the Beer and Pubs sector to Scotland. 🍺 The debate was an opportunity to outline the importance of local pubs, social clubs and breweries to Brand Scotland, to local economies and as a vital part of our social fabric. Our locals are at the heart of community life up and down the country – and they deserve to be supported, protected and promoted. 🗣️ CAMRA will continue to work with the Cross Party Group and with MSPs from all parties to campaign for a fair deal for a fair deal for consumers, pubs and breweries across Scotland including on: 🍻 Fair access to market for local, independent breweries; 📣 Introducing a new, fairer Business Rates system (some relief for pubs with rates bills announced in the Scottish Budget last week is better than nothing but we need fundamental reform of this broken system); 📢 A re-think on draconian advertising and sponsorship restrictions; 🏛️ Making the planning system fairer to better support and protect pubs from conversion or demolition against the wishes of local communities; 🗨️ Ensuring the new statutory Scottish Pubs Code protects tied pub tenants and makes the tied pubs sector fairer and more sustainable. 📖 The full conclusions and recommendations are available in the Cross Party Group’s report here: https://ow.ly/pjtz50UotU6 👉 You can watch the full debate, with contributions from Conservative, SNP, Labour and Independent MSPs, here: https://ow.ly/1bOl50UotU7

Big plans for Mangal Döner x Lukas Podolski 10 💪🚀 50 Outlets and 40mio€ turnover 💶💰 - that’s already quite #impressive! But I know that Marco Schepers has big plans 🚀🚀 (and #Metin and #Poldi too): After the pop-up store in #Berlin🇩🇪, they now want to conquer it with #restaurants with a experienced #franchisee. In #Polen🇵🇱, the company store is almost finished ✅, #Netherlands🇳🇱 and #UK🇬🇧 are in preparation - sounds really great. Interestingly, the motto is not ro be #different, but just to be #better 🥙🥙 SALOMON FoodWorld #foodservice #gastronomy #hospitality #döner

Help us to keep much loved pubs, bars and venues as the heartbeat of High Streets and communities! As we eagerly anticipate the official start of the EUROs tournament today, which will bring a much welcome boost to our industry, we mustn’t lose sight of the continued pressures the hospitality industry, and Great British Pub, faces. Our sector is among the highest taxed sectors in the economy and Pubs pay up to four times more in business rates – the current 75% relief in England is a short-term lifeline and without an urgent and radical reform to business rates, many more pubs will be at risk of closure. With the support of the British Pub and Beer Association, Stonegate Group have joined forces with over 80 industry leaders in a pledge to leading political parties for fair recognition of the value our industry adds to the economy and the support we desperately need to continue to do what we do best - invest in our fantastic pubs, bars and venues, invest in our teams, Publicans and Operators, improve and innovate to meet changing consumer taste and demands, and provide the community hubs that are the crucial and often invisible glue that bring people together. We ask that you share this open letter, signed by over 80 leading pub and brewing companies, with your local Member of Parliament and help have a voice in allowing our sector to thrive again. https://lnkd.in/eJJcutnt

For many coffee professionals, #barista #competitions represent the pinnacle of the #specialtycoffee industry, and many have built a career off the back of their competition success. But as new generations enter the sector, the prestige is shifting. Ross Hindle speaks with Charlotte Corra about the evolution of competitions over time, how in recent years, SCA Expo and WoC events have seen a notably smaller audience for their competitions, and why that is. https://lnkd.in/egiWiT5P

The high-speed operator suspended operations from Ashford International and Ebbsfleet in the early stages of the pandemic. But it has faced mounting pressure to bring back the popular routes over the last year given their importance for the local region’s economy. Continue reading 👇 https://bit.ly/40GycWV
