Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics), the flagship academic medical center of Dartmouth Health, received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2024 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns grades to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. “This recognition from The Leapfrog Group speaks to the incredible work that our people and teams do every day to ensure safe, patient-centered, timely, and equitable care to our community,” said Michael S. Mount Carmel Health System is bringing a new hospital to Dublin in 2025. The 60-bed facility will provide comprehensive medical services to support the health and well-being of our Exceptional Community. CEO Tauana McDonald told The Columbus Dispatch, "As the community is growing, we want to make sure that we're growing to provide care to the people who are coming to the community. " McDonald added, "Our Mount Carmel Dublin Hospital will provide hospital and medical campus services for the Dublin community and beyond." Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its Critical Access Hospital Accreditation after an unannounced review in August of this year. This seal of approval indicates the hospital meets compliance with standards set by healthcare experts and providers in areas such as emergency management, environment of care, leadership, and more. The Critical Access Hospital Accreditation program is intended to improve access to healthcare in rural communities. The Korte Company is teaming up with Carlinville Area Hospital & Clinics to build a 6,000-square-foot medical clinic in Virden, Illinois. This new facility will replace the mobile clinic, which has been serving the area since October 2023. The mobile clinic's success showed the strong demand for healthcare, and this permanent clinic will provide a wider range of primary and specialty care to the community. Brian Burnside, President/CEO of CAH&C, shared his excitement: "We’re thrilled to announce this transition," Burnside said. "It reflects our commitment to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our community by providing access to both primary and specialty care services." BMHC Board President, The Honorable Dr. Larry Wallace, Jr., Ph.D., co-authored a health-equity-focused article with Dr. Norman Chenven, MD., of Austin Regional Clinic, and David Stein, CEO of Babson Diagnostics, called "Three Guys Walk into a Conference And...", in the July 2024 Edition of the Austin Medical Times Magazine. What is unique about this collaborative piece is how it was born. Three guys, who come from very different places—a medical group, community care coordination, and a diagnostics company—met as they all sat on a panel at the 2023 Healthier Texas Summit hosted by It's Time Texas in collaboration with the University of Texas System. However, they all had one question in common and that is: "How do we remove barriers, make access to care easier, and reduce any fear and anxiety related to getting medical help?" They all acknowledged statistics show the health equity gap appears to be more acute in Texas than in many other states. According to their article, our state recently ranked poorly across 24 healthcare metric determinants spanning across four categories: access, outcomes, cost, and quality of care. They also agreed the challenge of improving care is big and complex, but the place to start is with preventative care.
