Paramount Global‘s co-chiefs, Brian Robbins, Chris McCarthy and George Cheeks, wrote a memo to staff that stated the company would donate $1 million to various relief efforts. And SAG-AFTRA, led by president Fran Drescher, has also pledged $1 million for impacted workers in its 160,000-member union.
As multiple wildfires rage in Los Angeles County while studios mobilize responses for their employees and community, Comcast unveiled an initiative to direct $10 million to support relief efforts.

There are special rules in place for taxpayers who make gifts of land and buildings to charity. This can include Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax (CGT) relief provided all the necessary conditions are met. There are also reliefs available where taxpayers sell a property to a charity for less than its market value. Tax relief may also be available if a lease is granted to a charity that is rent-free or below a market rent. #CGT #GiftsToCharities #Charities

I watched this movie 👇 on Wednesday night. I don't watch movies on Wednesday nights. I save them for occasional weekends but when I heard about this movie on Wednesday afternoon I made sure I watched it that night - and I'm so glad I did. As someone who has 'grown up' in corporate and business settings, exposure to the NFP sector over the past few years has been an eye opener. The people who work in NFPs and associated organisations are passionate and hardworking and committed and sustained by such a strong sense of meaning and purpose. They are incredible in so many ways and their work is so necessary. But as someone once put it to me (and I wish I could remember who) 'You are out there doing everything in your power to change the world with $5 spread between you.' That's an impossible and unsustainable task. As a workplace psychologist I worry about the level of burnout I see in the NFP sector. I worry that the passion, hard work, commitment, vision and progress is thwarted by unsustainable business models. I worry that good people are lost and great initiatives stall because the focus is always on survival. The conditions for survival are very different to the conditions required for thriving. This is not the fault of those leading NFPs. It's structural. And if we're going to make positive change in the world we have to start doing things differently. That's why I loved this movie. It provokes us to think differently about how we do things in the NFP and charitable sector. If any of this ☝️ resonates with you, watch the movie - and let's talk about it. Thank you to Dan Pallotta, Stephen Gyllenhaal and your teams for bringing this to the world and to Social Impact Hub for sharing it with Aus/NZ.
Only seven days until our movie, “Uncharitable,” is streaming worldwide on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and Vimeo. Please help spread the word. https://lnkd.in/e69wXNs7

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) submitted comments to the IRS regarding the proposed regulations on Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs). Key concerns raised include the potential reclassification of various fund types as DAFs, which may limit their eligibility for Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). The AFP also notes the potential for confusion (especially with community foundations) given significant self-regulation already in place, referencing existing accreditation standards for community foundations and standards followed by commercial donor-advised fund sponsors. In addition, AFP highlights the potential negative impact of certain aspects of these regulations at a time when charitable giving is in significant decline. According to Giving USA, charitable giving declined by 10.5% in 2022 when adjusted for inflation, marking the largest year-over-year decline in total dollars given to charity since 1956. Inheritance Tax (IHT) impacts estates over £325,000, with rates of 40% on death and 20% on certain gifts. A 36% reduced rate applies if 10% of the estate is left to charity. Executors must value estates and may need to file tax returns for the deceased and their estate. #InheritanceTax #EstatePlanning #TaxTips
