HOMES NSW LAUNCHES 🏠 Community Housing Providers have long been calling for key NSW housing-related entities to be streamlined as an essential foundation for a strong social and affordable housing system. Yesterday, the new NSW agency became a reality. Homes NSW will be "the largest public housing agency in the southern hemisphere", bringing together the NSW Department of Communities and Justice housing and homelessness services, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office and key worker housing. Minister for Housing and Homelessness Rose Jackson said: “For too long, social housing in this state has been neglected – simple issues such as a leaking tap or even the ability to register on the waitlist have been unnecessarily complicated. ‘’That’s why this overhaul is needed. We’re breaking the chains of bureaucracy and empowering our tenants, as well as those who are in need of emergency housing, or on the social housing waitlist... "The creation of a single agency to manage social and affordable housing and homelessness services is a common sense approach and is positioned to provide support to the people who need it most." Inaugural CEO of Homes NSW Rebecca Pinkstone said: “Homes NSW will deliver on the promise of more and better social and affordable housing in NSW. Our aim is to create the best social housing system in the country. Benefits of growing up on a council estate in the 90s 👇 (from a Yorkshire lass that’s worked very hard to get to where she is) → Resilience Boy did we go through it! But we bounced back stronger every time. I carry that strength into EVERYTHING I do as an adult. → Tight-knit community From the whole estate having water fights to waking everyone searching for one family's child that had wandered off, this remains the strongest sense of community I’ve ever known. → Friendships Coming from a multicultural family, a council estate was the easiest place to fit in. I have friendships from all backgrounds and walks of life. I never felt different at home. → Street-smart  You get savvy real real quick. From reading people to developing a keen awareness of my surroundings. These skills have been invaluable in business and adulthood. → Creativity  You know we once built our own go-karts? This creativity has become a cornerstone for problem-solving and innovation in my career. → Strong work ethic I got my first job at 14. I would stand outside ALL DAY holding a sign for a cafe for minimum wage because I wanted money to do the things my school friends were doing. I have worked ever since. → Understanding of social justice If you haven’t lived it, you won't ever truly get it. It shaped me. It made me a better person. I will ferociously go after the things I want. I will take risks. My childhood did not hold me back. It has pushed me forward. While some focus on what they didn't have, I like to focus on what I gained. I grew up poor but I lived a RICH life. Here’s to gratitude 🍻 #personalgrowth #gratitude

Mississippi County, Arkansas is offering up to $50,000 to both locals and out-of-towners. The only catch: You have to stay there for at least four years. It’s part of a wave of incentives many U.S. cities are offering to attract new residents. For example, Tulsa, Oklahoma pays $10,000 for anyone who wants to move there.  80 people have already taken up the offer in Arkansas, as remote work has allowed people to find cheaper housing in remote areas. …But Maybe Not Here More and more people are moving to the South - but some locals aren’t showing their Southern hospitality. Local groups in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia are turning newcomers away, passing zoning requirements to limit housing construction.  Many workers are attracted to the economic booms and low taxes in cities like Nashville and Atlanta. The South accounted for two-thirds of U.S. job growth in 2023.
