At what cost? And using what unit of measurement?
Our hearts go out to the ordinary men, women, and children whose lives are forever turned upside down by wars not of their own making. The human cost of war is unbearable.

Did you hear KOSA and COPPA 2.0 were passed in the US senate? The Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act (KOSA) represents a significant legislative effort aimed at enhancing the safety and privacy of children and teenagers online. KOSA imposes a legal obligation on online platforms to take "reasonable" measures to protect minors from various online harms such as bullying, sexual exploitation, drug promotion, and mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. - Platforms are required to set the highest privacy settings by default for minors. - They must also facilitate easy deletion of personal data and manage the time minors spend on the service. - The act mandates parental control features that allow parents to monitor their children's privacy settings, and account activities, restrict purchases, and manage screen time. - Platforms must prevent unknown adults from contacting minors or accessing their personal information and limit the sharing of minors' geolocation data. - Social media platforms are required to allow minors to opt out of algorithm-based recommendation systems or at least restrict the categories of recommendations. Alongside KOSA, the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) was also passed. This act expands the original 1998 COPPA law by extending privacy protections to teenagers up to 16 years old. Prohibiting targeted advertising directed at children and teenagers. Mandating data deletion and creating a new division within the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) focused on youth marketing and privacy.
Parents, professionals and advocates... this a historic day we have been working toward for many years!

2023 was a catastrophic year for children. From Ukraine to Gaza, Sudan to Myanmar, children are bearing the brunt of wars waged by adults. Thousands of children continue to be recruited and used by armed forces and armed groups but children around the world are also being killed and maimed at alarming rates, attacks on schools and hospitals have increased exponentially, and children continue to be denied access to humanitarian assistance. This is creating a deeply troubling world; a world where many children will know no other reality than a violent one. Violence begets violence. The International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers - Red Hand Day - was created in 2002 to bring attention to the importance of preventing the recruitment and use of child soldiers. It is arguably more important today than ever before. Peace is possible, violence is preventable and children must be at the heart of the solutions.
The International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers – otherwise known as Red Hand Day – is our annual reminder that children are being recruited and used in armed violence. Every day, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security is mobilizing innovative research, high-level and grassroots advocacy, as well as hands-on training to end and prevent this grave violation of children's rights. Watch our video to find out why. Because we know peace is possible, violence is preventable, and children must be at the heart of the solutions. The opinions and comments shared on my LinkedIn profile are solely my own and do not reflect the views of my prior or current employer, affiliated organizations, or any other organizations with which I am involved.
Earlier, I mentioned that Israel arrests 500-700 children annually, even before the events of October 7th. Israel is the only government in the world that automatically and systematically prosecutes children in military courts. Below video is an example of such a cowardly action by the IDF. In the occupied Palestinian territories, Israeli military forces regularly detain Palestinian children, sometimes as young as 12 years old. These arrests often occur during night raids, leaving families shocked and powerless. Human rights organizations have documented instances where children are blindfolded, handcuffed, and transported to interrogation centers without access to a lawyer or a family member. During interrogations, children are often subjected to psychological pressure, intimidation, and, in some cases, physical abuse to extract confessions. These children are then brought before military courts, where they face prosecution under a system with a conviction rate of nearly 100%. This systematic and institutionalized practice has been condemned by various international human rights groups, highlighting the deep injustices faced by Palestinian youth under occupation. Despite widespread criticism from the international community, including organizations like UNICEF, these practices continue, raising serious concerns about violations of children's rights and the long-term impact on Palestinian society. *And all of this often simply because they threw a stone*

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝟑𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐋𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐁. 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 -President from 1963-1969. -After taking office, Johnson declared a “War on Poverty" and actively pushed Congress to pass legislation attacking illiteracy, unemployment and racial discrimination. -His legislative agenda created the Medicare and Medicaid programs to provide federal health insurance for elderly and poor Americans. He also made great strides in attacking racial discrimination by signing the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965. -Despite Johnson’s success in promoting his domestic reform policies, his presidency was also defined by the failure of his policies toward Vietnam as he steadily escalated U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. -The number of American troops in Vietnam soared from 16,000 when he took office in 1963 to more than 500,000 in 1968, yet the conflict remained a bloody stalemate.
