You won't believe it, but contrary to popular belief, my passion doesn't lie in teaching or academia. Instead, I'm deeply committed to research and supporting others to gather the evidence needed to champion diversity, equality, and inclusion. I firmly believe that knowledge-sharing should be a two-way street, where everyone has the opportunity to learn and contribute. As my business continues to expand, I'm excited to announce that I'm dedicating 5% of my profits to establish a paid research internship program. This initiative will offer valuable paid work experience to emerging evaluators, allowing them to collaborate with me on active evaluations. Fair compensation for labor is paramount to me, and I'm committed to ensuring that training opportunities are compensated accordingly. While the internship program is still in the pipeline, I'm still working to support others in learning and honing their research skills. I am currently engaged in cultivating critical thinking skills in research with students at HKMU. Through engaging sessions, we explore intriguing articles and plant the seeds of inquiry that will shape their research journey. This belief drives me to offer a substantial discount for education evaluations aimed at enhancing equality, diversity, and inclusion within educational settings. Additionally, I host a free virtual "unoffice hour" every week, providing an open space for discussions on research, professional insights, or simply casual conversations. One thing we don’t discuss enough when we talk about diversity & inclusion is socioeconomic status. Beyond the bias, racism, homophobia, & hypocrisy that builds barricades to professions, there’s often another underlying issue that is both foundational & intertwined when it comes to (lack of) access: (lack of) Money. It's enough of an issue on its own for those seeking to join the legal profession (and others), but it also acts as a multiplier to the barriers that individuals from equity-seeking groups already face. This is as insidious as any other bias, and shows up where you'd least expect it, so it can be difficult for people to spot in some circumstances. For example, during student recruitment, discussions often arise about travel or internship experiences (many of which are unpaid). These are not opportunities available to everyone, or even most people. It's always important to keep this kind of privilege in mind.
