🌟 Founder & CEO at Spark Innovation Group | Care Technology Evangelist | Illuminating the Way in #Agetech 🌟
Reflections from the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse 🌟 Yesterday, Spark Care had the privilege of exhibiting at the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse, an event that brought together visionaries and practitioners in the field of adult social care. One of the highlights for me was listening to Kevin Humphrys, CEO at Oakland Care Group, whose insights into the future of adult social care were not only enlightening but also deeply inspiring. Kevin began his talk with a quote that resonated with everyone in the room: "Adult social care is both an art and a science, bound by the complexity of human emotions." This perfectly encapsulates the dual challenges we face in this field—balancing the emotional and practical needs of those we care for. 🎭🔬 Kevin emphasised the urgent need for fair funding reform in adult social care. It’s clear that without adequate resources, the quality of care and the well-being of both carers and those they care for will significantly suffer. He also highlighted the importance of cultural shifts within our organisations. As we evolve, embracing changes in our approach can lead to meaningful progress and enhance the care we provide. 💡🔄 Moreover, Kevin discussed how crucial the widespread adoption of technology is in transforming adult social care. From improving operational efficiencies to providing better care through advanced monitoring systems, technology stands as a pillar that can support this sector's future. 🖥️💪 It was an enlightening experience to see so many dedicated professionals in one place, all committed to advancing the field of adult social care. Let’s continue these important conversations and work together towards a future where every individual receives the care and respect they deserve. #CareShowcase #AdultSocialCare #InnovationInCare #HealthcareLeadership

In their new Forefront article, Evelyne Kane, Victor Murray, and Miguel Rodriguez of the Camden Coalition; Tanya Shah; Alayna Tillman of the University of California, San Francisco LACRC; Alyce Luna; Connie Montgomery of the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation; Lauren Pelley; and Olivia Richard share recommendations for helping Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) navigate misalignments with their enrollee advisory committees, from the perspective of people with lived experience who have worked closely with the Camden Coalition—and other organizations—on multiple community engagement initiatives. "In our experience, good community engagement should reflect the community’s values and interests. As members of the Camden Coalition’s community engagement staff (Kane, Murray) and National Consumer Scholars program (Tillman, Luna, Montgomery, Pelley, Rodriguez, Richard), we are committed to building authentic partnerships between health care organizations and people with lived experience. From our extensive experience advocating for and representing consumers in community engagement initiatives, we know that building partnerships requires time, trust, and skill. While we agree that additional requirements can support the desired end-state of new D-SNP EACs—where these committees lead to meaningful improvement of health plan operations and member outcomes through health plan engagement with members in authentic, equitable, and mutually beneficial ways—real-world guidance is needed to help build such partnerships together." Transforming Healthcare with Data-Driven Strategies and Collaborative Partnerships to Enhance Health Equity and Quality Care
Elevating Community Voices: The Path to Transformative Healthcare Solutions As we continue to forge new collaborations and deepen existing partnerships, it’s time to reflect on our foundational approach to community involvement in healthcare. Two broad categories often come up: stakeholder outreach and community engagement. Let me tell you, they’re not interchangeable. In the conventional stakeholder outreach model, community feedback is often collected and filed away, but not always put into action. It’s transactional at best. On the flip side, community engagement is a game-changer. It’s not just talking to communities but conversing with them. This shifts the narrative, turning community members into co-creators who have a seat at the table. They help identify challenges, brainstorm solutions, and enact real, lasting change. It’s also crucial to acknowledge the vital role that Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) play in making community engagement truly transformative. With proper funding and support, CBOs can take our community efforts from ‘reaching out’ to ‘digging deep.’ So in our collaborations, we’re shooting for transformative, not transactional. As we aim to build healthier, more engaged communities, let’s not just pass the mic for people to be heard; let’s amplify their voices into real action. So, are you ready to do more than just reach out? This #BlackHistoryMonth, it's crucial to spotlight initiatives like the one highlighted by Ashley C. Moultrie on the importance of diversity in clinical trials. The commitment to increasing participation from historically underrepresented communities is not just commendable; it's essential for achieving true health equity. 🌍 Diversity in clinical research ensures that treatments are effective across all populations, addressing disparities that have long existed in healthcare. By prioritizing this, we're not only advocating for fairness but also enhancing the scientific accuracy and relevance of medical research. 🧬 At SSLS, alongside The Beautiful Way Foundation, we are inspired by these efforts and are excited to announce that we will soon share how we plan to contribute to this vital cause. Stay tuned as we join forces to make a tangible impact, ensuring that the life sciences industry's research reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier, more inclusive future. 💪🏾💖 #DiversityInResearch #HealthEquity #InclusionMatters https://lnkd.in/eHzYb7S7
