This impressive new book, 'Apocalypse Postponed: The real truth about the end of the world', by Dr Paul McGrane, focuses on the Book of Revelation and Christian belief in imminent apocalypse, and shows how complete misunderstanding of Old and New Testament texts has led to centuries of ‘fallacious expectation’ and ‘apocalyptic lunacy’. Key apocalyptic themes are identified and located, not in our future, but in people and events contemporary with the writers of Revelation. Here's my review.

I believe in the NT gift of prophecy but I am immediately suspicious of anyone who wears “Prophet” in front of their name as a title. I also am convinced that much today that is called “prophetic” is the work of over-active imaginations. This book is the fruit of over 50 years in the ministry and observing and experiencing the “prophetic” for over 60 years https://lnkd.in/gmKB5rue

Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment was one of my favorite books in high school, but I haven't read one of his major novels since then. After three months, I finally finished slogging through The Idiot, the book he wrote after Crime and Punishment, and it makes me wonder if the former book was really that good or just a good book for a self-absorbed, privileged kid in a private high school. Have any of you read it as an adult? Here's my brief take on The Idiot, if you're interested: https://lnkd.in/eVy7QtWb.

Why Good People Do Bad Things, by Erwin W. Lutzer, describes some of our deceptions and sins and offers hope, particularly to Christians who find themselves caught in destructive patterns of living. Lutzer makes it clear that although psychology might be able to provide some helpful analysis of certain conditions, only the Bible can correctly evaluate our motives and only God can transform us. Our level of gratitude to God for saving us from ourselves can be a hint as to how far along we are in the transformation process--and how much we may need an eye-opener such as this book! And Heavenly Things by Kim Cousins Published by: Resource Publications, An imprint of Wipf and Stock Publishers Follow the author: Kim Cousins Perfect 5 out of 5 star rating on OBC! ✨ “From the lofty heights of God’s throne room to the miry depths of Satan’s abyss the battle continues to rage on earth. Knowing his time on earth will end soon, Satan increases the intensity of his attacks upon humankind while God matches his adversary’s assaults with supernatural provision and power. Readers delve into a world of spiritual warfare between angels and demons and the impact of their warfare upon the earth. This battle is real. This battle is relevant. And this battle is not an exercise of scholarly debate; it is an issue for today. For everyone. I want to thank everyone who has supported me in the recent release of my own book. Yes, after 40-some books ghostwritten or edited for others, I've finally come out with one of my own (besides "Writing Memoir," which still remains available!) Please check it out. So far, the reviews have been humbling. (I mean, in a good way.) A taste: "A well-written and convincing rumination on the divine. Payne is especially skilled at introducing difficult concepts with an engaging, often humorous prose style." -Kirkus Reviews "Five Stars! Edgy but kind exploration of God's existence and nature...the sense of humor seasons the text like a good dash of salt and pepper. If there's one book on God to read this year, please make it 'So Who is God Anyway?' by G.S. Payne." -Reader Views "With wit, humanity, and inviting prose, So Who is God Anyway? explains complex philosophical concepts clearly and accurately...Payne targets an audience of skeptics, but open-minded people of any religious tradition can find value in his musings." -BookLife (Editor's Pick) "A fascinating exploration. With humor, wit, and thought-provoking insights, Payne makes a convincing case that there is more to God than meets the eye...Whether you're seeking personal growth or a new perspective on life, Payne's work will captivate and challenge you to think beyond what you have been taught." -Midwest Book Review "Filled with humor...Payne's exceptional research is delivered as if he's talking to you at his home while you sip a glass of lemonade. Five stars!" -Readers' Favorite "A thoughtful and accessible approach for the lay believer or nonbeliever who wants a firmer basis in understanding what and how to believe." IndieReader Sales are strong. Thanks everybody! https://lnkd.in/gDHTXKpk
