"The concept for the community hub design is grounded in the primary form of the circle, inspired locally by the formation of the Pow-wow grounds next to the site, and by the circle’s recurring significance within Cree culture." Reimagine Our beautiful and bright Westlam Spruce adorns part of the circular ceiling of the community centre. This exposed mass timber system was chosen to frame the building as it could efficiently handle the complex geometry, provide a beautiful aesthetic and deliver sustainable benefits. Does the perfect building material exist? When it comes to architecture and sustainable building, we often seek to control and perfect the materials we use. Traditionally, wood has been tamed through rigorous processes to prevent natural distortions, but what if we embraced its inherent properties instead? Achim Menges, an innovative architect and professor at the University of Stuttgart, is doing just that. By harnessing the natural behaviour of wood through computational design, Menges and his team at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction are pioneering self-shaping timber structures. These structures adapt and morph over time, leveraging wood’s hygroscopic nature to create sustainable and cost-effective architectural marvels. One of Menges' groundbreaking projects, the HygroShell, showcased at the Chicago Architecture Biennial, demonstrates how prefabricated panels can unfold and transform, minimising material use while achieving stunning architectural forms. This approach not only reduces waste but also introduces a new era of low-energy, efficient construction. Discover how Menges’ work is reshaping our understanding of wood in architecture and paving the way for innovative, eco-friendly building practices. If, like me, you find this stuff fascinating, then follow the link below. Architecture transcends time, but sadly, architectural elements often do not. The challenge, then, is in the choice to repair; replace; or destroy and start over. It’s best to preserve, but matching existing historical elements can be cost prohibitive. Fortunately, there are ways to create new profiles that are unique and cost-effective. This program will demonstrate ways to repair and replace architectural elements and create new ones. Local projects will be used as illustration. Join CSI Rochester on 3/14/24 for a presentation from Scott Grove, Owner, Green Grove Design, for an insider's look into restoring, replacing and renovating some of the greatest ornamental and architectural wonders from the 18th and 19th centuries. The sophisticated shadows of Architecture speak of its beauty of Design ❤ Indeed the charms, variation and beauty of complexity comes from integrating the intellectual Design Strategies of Architecture. Depicting the Nature into the Design smoothly influence the Sustainable Environment. Here is the visualization of the exterior design of Commercial building with the Light and shadows whole in Day that's showing the integrating of Strategies Design elements of façade impacting from the Environment. In this Design Jaalis beautifully casting a pattern shadows inside the context of building with the intricating the surrounding environmental impacts on the Building. Always I feel glad to share my work and thoughts with my LinkedIn community. The beauty of automatic door automation is that it can be retrofitted. It is never too late to make your building more secure, more accessible, more efficient and just safer for all pedestrian traffic. Hamilton House in London, home of the National Education Union is a great example of how a modern entrance can seamlessly fit within a period building, without affecting its heritage or aesthetics. A slim telescopic sliding automatic door was fitted, which adapted to the space available whilst providing the maximum open width of passage.
