An under water icicle, called a brinicle, freezes everything in its path. A brinicle, also known as an ice stalactite, is a fascinating natural phenomenon that occurs under sea ice in polar regions. When extremely cold, saline water leaks from the sea ice, it sinks towards the ocean floor, due to its higher density compared to the surrounding water. As this supercooled brine descends, it freezes the fresher water it comes into contact with, creating a tube of ice around the descending plume. This process results in the formation of a brinicle, which looks somewhat like an underwater icicle or a pipe made of ice. #water #winter #nature #ocean

Many terrestrial animals have adaptable lens shapes that allow them to focus on objects at different distances by essentially adjusting the focal length of their eyes. The term "accommodation" refers to this lens modification (see also below). Other forms of accommodation, such as shifting the lens's location in relation to the retina instead of altering its shape, are employed by many totally aquatic vertebrates, including fish. The process of focusing a photographic camera by switching out its lenses is comparable to accommodation. The lens is flatter on the anterior surface of land vertebrates.
