If someone emails or calls you alleging to be from your bank, you have a right and responsibility (to yourself) to verify their identity. Ideally, there would be no question in your mind because you have a personal banker who is well known to you. Otherwise, tell the caller you intend to contact the bank through a phone number listed on the bank's website or the number on your debit card. If it's an email, don't click anything! Go through established, safe channels to check your online banking or call your banker. Five extra minutes could change the way you spend your retirement years. #relationshipbanking #fraudprevention

If you receive a text from someone who claims to be from your bank asking if a recent credit card charge is valid or not, DON'T REPLY! Instead, call the number on the back of your card and speak with a representative in customer service and ask him/her to look into it. Many of these texts are scam artists pretending to be from your bank, only to call you and garner your online banking credentials so they can wreak havoc by taking over your accounts! Remember, text messages from your bank do NOT come from a phone number. They are usually sent by an automated system from a 5 or 6 digit number. Don't fall prey...call your bank/banker directly!

If you or your staff are dubious about a call it is likely to be a scam. We are publishing the following Fraud Advice: Fraudsters claiming to be from the Bank are targeting businesses like yours with scam phone calls. In order to obtain your online banking details, their aim is to convince you to visit a fake online banking website that looks similar to our website. They may start by giving you a fake phone number to call where the recorded greeting is a copy of our genuine greeting message. ] Please remember, we’ll never call you to: • Ask for your online banking user details, passwords, or a card reader code. • Tell you to visit a specific website to enter your online details, or download any support software. If you get a call like this, please hang up immediately and advise your colleagues to be wary of further attempts. Always use a phone number you know is correct to contact us. Never trust a phone number that’s given to you by someone who calls claiming to be your bank. To contact us safely, call us on a number that you know or alternatively dial 159 the STOP SCAMS UK telephone number that will connect you to your bank.  #fraudadvise #beaware
