1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (NKJV) For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. Kindness is a skill that we need to nurture. This clip has a powerful reminder that random acts of kindness can make all the difference in someone's world. We may ask a lot of ourselves and those around us; doing so with kindness rather than judgement is the difference between driving performance vs. building trust. Simon Sinek has a great lesson on this borrowed from how the Navy SEALs pick their team. #beauthentic #behumble

Being able to effectively listen is a key life skill
In the stillness of the quiet, if we listen, we can hear the whisper of the heart giving strength to weakness, courage to fear, hope to despair. -Howard Thurman

https://lnkd.in/eQM9t7Nj People Talking: John 7:1-13 During Jesus time they also had to deal with whole lot of talk, and they determine if what people were saying about Jesus was true or false. Today we continue our series in the “Son of God” in the Gospel of John, as we look at “People Talking” from John 7:1-13. We will look at three thing: 1. Brother’s Response: (John 7:1 - 5) 2. Jesus’ Response: (John 7:6 - 9) 3. People’s Response: (John 7:10 - 13) Questions of the Week 1. How does sufferings of Jesus, especially on the cross, help us when we are persecuted or mocked for our faith? 2. How can you adjust your schedule to be more God honoring? 3. Why is understanding what other people believe and think important when sharing the Gospel? 4. How can you more boldly stand for the Gospel and not live in fear? May we live a life that has been transformed by the Gospel, that is bold, unafraid, and peaceful. #gospelofjohn #John7 #Peopletalking #GodsTiming #Light #Hate #Fear

I believe it's magic - Balak (Numbers 22:2 - 25:9) The mocking tale of the not-so-great king and the not-so-powerful wizard: on divine purposes worked with flawed material, on magic and faith, and on (not) hearing only what we want to hear. (Link in 1st comment)

Coming off a 2-month stint of high stress, this resonated with me. Since Mid-May: 2 business travel trips 1 travel vacation sandwiched between the business trips (I hate flying by the way. Not just as an inconvenience but major anxiety requiring medication to get on the planes.) 1 sick, senior dog - several expensive vet trips, medications and weekly check-in appointments. (Was it time to make "the decision?" Had to ask myself that question a few times.) 1 car accident - a hit and run on my 2-hour commute into the office. Followed by over a month of back & forth with police, insurance, repair shops. 1 family member moved to hospice for a week before passing away. I bounced back & forth between work and hospice every day for that week. There was at least 1 vet appointment for the dog. There were intermittent phone calls with my insurance. There was the accidental notice the police department sent me telling me criminal charges were going to be filed against me for leaving the scene of the accident. Ummm, no. I was the one who was hit. And, oh yeah, my family all moving through different parts of a grief process for someone we knew was going to die from end stage dementia. I had to be strong for them while being very sad on my insides. I am someone who performs well under crisis and sometimes even pride myself on it. This was different. Objectively, I could look at this list and understand it was colossal for any "average" person and I'd expect anyone else to have broken by the halfway point. Why was I holding myself to a higher standard? I started acupuncture appointments the week our family member was in hospice. I never know if these types of things really work but I'm willing to try anything which can't hurt. It will either work because it's supposed to, or it could work from placebo effect. I have had one appointment snap me out of a huge, days long funk I had been in after my aunt passed. That felt palpable. I am also heeding the advice I am being given in these sessions. Maybe don't force myself to go the gym every day because I am very hard on myself about weight gain. Maybe it's ok to leave the lawn mowing for tomorrow rather than tonight after work. Get the dairy free ice cream on Friday afternoon and just enjoy eating it sitting in your car in the parking lot. It's ok to have more than 1 bubble bath in a week. If I want to spend 6 hours in the house, doing puzzles while my dog and cat laze on the couch next to me, so be it. On weekends, I feel like I must maximize time on the beach. But I'm just not feeling the summer tourists & spending the initial peaceful moments dreading the group whose going to plop down super close to me blaring their radio. The point is, this is life. For all of us, at multiple times. This is life. Give yourself grace. Take care of yourself even when you are deep in the trenches of it. Do whatever you must to stay who you are.
