"You make coalitions work through a very clear set of principles." This quote from Emma Pinchbeck of Energy UK is so bang on the money. When we have challenges running coalitions, the problem that sits underneath them is normally one of: - we're here because it looks good for us to be here - we're here because we feel like we should be here - we're here because FOMO And thus, as Yoda did not say, "Unwilling they are. Together work they cannot. Crumble to dust, such alliances do." Establishing principles for what the coalition is there to do and how it will do it up front, so that those who disagree do not join, is core to the coalition being able to achieve anything. Yes it means less organisations getting involved, but yes it also means you're more likely to achieve something. Read Emma's Getting Policy Unstuck interview in full here: https://lnkd.in/eu9nFYxq

BREAKING NEWS: NJ Governor Murphy has signed a landmark bill into law, strengthening New Jersey’s community solar program! As a member of the NJ Shines Coalition, we applaud this major win for equitable access to clean energy. ☀️ This legislation allows municipalities to facilitate access for low wealth subscribers, signing up eligible community members to automatically receive energy bill savings. Expanding equitable access to clean energy is particularly important because overburdened communities, especially communities of color, face disproportionately high utility bills and exposure to air pollution from fossil fuels, often with serious impacts on health and wellbeing. Our Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, Elowyn Corby says, “New Jersey’s community solar program has rapidly emerged as a national leader in the fight for an equitable clean energy future. We’re grateful to the state leaders who have pushed to make this vision a reality, and to the communities across the state who’ve tirelessly worked to prove that we don’t need to choose between speed and equity in our clean energy transition. When we commit to a clean energy transition that puts the interests, health, and wellbeing of people at its center, the sky really is the limit.” We are excited to usher in the new year with a dramatic expansion of equitable clean energy in New Jersey, and we couldn’t have done it without you! 🧡

Our co-Chief Policy & Impact officer, Con Hristodoulidis joined colleagues from across 50 social, faith, union, regional community and climate and environmental organisations for the launch of the cross-party Renew Australia For All campaign at Parliament House in Canberra yesterday. “The success of Federal, state and territory incentive programs means Australian households are leading the rest of the world in adopting and realising the benefits of rooftop solar, with lower cost bills and greater peace of mind,” he said. The campaign calls on the Federal Government to invest $5 billion in supporting low-income households, social housing tenants, renters and strata residents in accessing the benefits of rooftop solar, home batteries, electrification and energy efficiency upgrades. Earlier this year, the Clean Energy Council released ‘Powering Homes, Empowering People: A National Consumer Energy Resources Roadmap’, identifying 16 priority measures that would result in $22.4 billion of savings for taxpayers and 18,000 jobs generated. Download a copy of the Roadmap here https://lnkd.in/gPmWr8rm Read our media release about the Renew Australia for All campaign, here: https://lnkd.in/gtZtcW4u #auspol #cleanenergy #renewableenergy
