Director of Next Level Educational: professional development for teachers and school leaders | Author of Power Up Your Pedagogy and The Teaching Delusion trilogy | Rector of Berwickshire High School, 2020-2024
As I step away from Berwickshire High School for the next year, I want to congratulate our school community on the superb progress we’ve made together in 4 years. Our school today is unrecognisable from the one that was rated three ‘Weak’s & an ‘Unsatisfactory’ in its 2019 inspection. Recent staff quotes help capture just how far we’ve come: - “Our school ethos is excellent.” - “Behaviour is very good and something we should be proud of.” - “This is by far the best professional learning offer of any school.” - “Staff CPD just gets better and better.” In the re-inspection, inspectors reported: “The quality and consistency of learning, teaching and assessment has improved considerably” and “The school environment now provides a calm, orderly context for learning”. We’ve got to where we are by focusing on the right things, in the right way: 1. The continuous improvement of teaching practice. 2. High-quality professional development, focused on teaching and learning. Supporting both is our ongoing focus on high standards of behaviour across our school. A real team effort, and one everyone involved should feel very proud of.

Kids are all back to school and it’s important to understand the value of play for all when it comes to learning and development. As more and more people and communities push for an inclusive play space, the school playground is an obvious choice to make inviting for everyone of every ability. In her blog, Jill tackles not only the benefit but the challenges in building playgrounds inclusive of all abilities. She also recommends ways to overcome those challenges and make accessibility more available. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/eKsaTqEQ

Empowering business leaders to align their wealth with meaningful philanthropy, creating lasting impact, personal legacies and new philanthropists now
I'll never get tired of saying how much Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) has added to both my professional practice as an advisor as well as my personal mission as a philanthropist and yesterday's "For the Love of Gift Planning" workshop was no different. Great to catch up with colleagues and meet new connections, as well as hear from guest speakers - here's a few things I learned: Malcolm Burrows is not just plugged into the trends in gift planning like nobody I've ever met, but he also makes a mean Powerpoint deck complete with fine art on every slide. I thought I'd be learning about the crossroads we find ourselves in as an industry, left also with a little bit of art history knowledge. Susan Manwaring hates the terms "in perpetuity" and "endowment" and I now know why. Left her session with a new understanding of the importance of gifting agreements, what can go wrong, and ideally how to get out ahead of those issues. Janine Kuzma BA, CFRE and St. Joe's are doing fantastic work with their professional advisory network and I think that model can be replicated for many #charities especially in the #artsandculture sector to help donors be more strategic in their giving. Michelle Osborne, CFRE and Melissa Pang broke down some of the learnings they had from their digital advertising campaign. Apparently the more emotional-based images don't work as well as the practical ones... good to know. Kimberley Blease kept us from the pub... just kidding. Fantastic research, as always, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the inclination of donors to prioritize arts and culture as recipients of gifts in their wills. Lot of takeaways on that. #conference #cagp #philanthropy #giftplanning #learningeveryday

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the outstanding CAGP Greater Toronto Area Chapter Professional Development day, "For the Love of Gift Planning." The wealth of knowledge shared by each speaker made it an incredible experience. I am inspired to apply the invaluable knowledge gained at Kingsway College School! Beyond Proud of You Mark! To all of my educators if you have any words of wisdom for my younger brother please drop them in the comment section!
Making My Mark 📍 • Senior, Middle Grades Education Major at Fort Valley State University • Aspiring Educator in the K-12 School System • Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
My first year of teaching has finally kicked off as today was Open House at Perry Middle School! Welcome to Mr. Nooks' 8th Grade ELA and SS class. I want to first thank God for placing me in the right places at the right time. I also want to thank Dr. Lazunia Frierson, Ed. D., Dr. Heath Burch, and the Perry Middle School Administration for taking a risk and hiring me as a student in FVSU's Education Program, allowing me to complete my last semester of Direct Teaching. That’s history in itself, and I plan to make my MARK. Mrs. Duran has been the glue for all of this, as she is my mentoring teacher and is always there in case I need anything. Although I’m nervous, I know I am more than capable. Let’s work. Houston County Board of Education #blackmenineducation #Alphamenineducation
