Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank’s Post

For the past two years, Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank has worked with the University of Pittsburgh Student Affairs to distribute packages of period products to first-year students during Welcome Week. These packages, assembled by fellow Pitt students, contained a three month supply of period products and allowed students to try different products they might be interested in, like Aerie Real Period Underwear and period cups. Per Kristy Giandomenico-Meaner, former Assistant Director of the Office of PittServes in Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, “Something that has been pricier was made more accessible to them through these donations from WPADB. We had students that were so excited to have the Aerie underwear because some students said they would have never been able to pay for them.” “These products are a cost that some of our students have to think about. The fact that they can receive a product they need for no cost makes them feel better. Having an event that gives out a resource that they use regularly speaks volumes and welcomes them,” said Giandomenico-Meaner. When it comes to period products and students, the State of the Period study done by PERIOD in 2021 says that 1 in 4 students that menstruate experience period poverty. By holding this distribution at the University of Pittsburgh, we are supporting and easing an element of stress they could potentially face during the school year.    Our partnership with the University of Pittsburgh has helped us give over 107,580 period products total over the past two years to students. Each bag given to students saves them approximately $50. Give today and help us fight period poverty and meet our goal of $2,000! Your donation will help us continue to support students at the University of Pittsburgh as well as the families we serve in the community.  Donate ➡️ at the link in bio. #PPAW24 #periodpovertyawareness #endperiodpoverty #menstrualequitymatters #menstrualequity
