🌍 The World is for those who Ask 🌍
The junior college that I attended, had an annual fund raising carnival.
Each class would receive a list of alumni, to approach to purchase carnival tickets. 🎟
I went to the level of the building I was allocated to. The receptionist told me to wait and that he would be out shortly.
The gentleman asked, “How much do you have to sell”? I told him, “$1,000 worth of tickets”.
𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘦 🤗 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨, $500 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘴!
Just as I was to walk off after handing him the tickets, he opened his wallet and asked, “How much do you think I have here?”
It was a thick stack of notes. I replied, “I do not know, but it looks like you have a lot of money, would you like to buy more?”.
With a big smile on his face, he said, “Yes, I have more than enough to buy the remaining $500. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒔𝒌. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏, 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒔𝒌 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆".
At that time, I was indignant 😡 . Why not buy the rest of the tickets, since you evidently could and who are you to teach me a lesson, I do not even know you!
That experience left an indelible mark on my psyche and has shaped my approach ever since.
