Most live event metrics are back to pre-COVID levels, with private equity showing confidence in the industry's resilience. Today, TrueLink Capital announced the acquisition of GES-Spiro, while Shamrock Capital expanded its investment in nth degree by acquiring FERN. Additionally, KKR, with its Strategic Investments strategy, funded Freeman for acquiring Sparks. Insights from John Hense, CEO of nth degree & Fern, sheds light on the shifting dynamics: "The ability for salespeople to meet customers at their location is at an all-time low... that's a problem. So that ability to meet customers is increasingly happening on the show floor." Events aren't just about presentations, demos, and panels. They're about unexpected connections that can only happen when you show up. Here are a few memorable moments from my time at #RSAC2024. Random Encounter 1 - At the Optiv party, I crossed paths with someone who grew up in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) and lived around NYC. We started talking about the city and he was a customer of my family store on Orchard St. Random Encounter 2 - if you've seen me at an event, you know I always wear a lapel pin. This week I only sported one and it was my New York Rangers (LGR!!!) pin. Met several fans including a fan from Iowa! I even high-fived some strangers when the Rangers won in Double OT. Random Encounter 3 - sometimes, the simple things like finding an empty booth with multiple seats make me smile. While talking to the other person with the same idea, we quickly realized we were in the same biz and had many folks in common. These random encounters are one of the many things that make events like #RSAC so valuable.
