THERE ARE SO MANY DICKS. And Richards and Ricks. Did you know that men named Richard, Rick, or Dick (Dicks) outnumber women and diverse groups on public company boards?
But where is everyone else? While it took time and deep research to come up with our Dick statistics, I have noticed for years as I climb the corporate ladder that I too rarely see women and diversity in the highest seats of power.
Let’s change that, together.
At E.L.F. BEAUTY we are purpose led and results driven. It’s that critical combination that has created an inclusive Board of Directors with ⅔ women and ⅓ diversity. AND we have had 20 quarters of consecutive net-sales growth and market share gains🦄
We know that we aren’t the only ones who want to be positive, inclusive and accessible. We combed through each board of directors of U.S. based companies on the NYSE and Nasdaq, all 36,957 existing board members across 4,429 publicly traded U.S. companies. I know there are other forces with whom we can join to make a greater positive impact.
The current stats:
🔍 There were 566 men named Richard, Rick, or Dick (Dicks) serving on these public company boards.
🔍 Black women and Asian women barely outnumber men named Dick, with only 806 Black Women, 774 Asian Women.
🔍 There were only 283 Hispanic Women on these same boards, only half the number of “Dicks”.
What are we doing with this data? We created "So Many Dicks," a bold campaign aimed at breaking through in an effort to transform the landscape of corporate boardrooms across the U.S. with awareness, education and action. 🚀
Please join us 🙏
I am so passionate about this because I believe if we collectively normalize diversity, we all win. Including Dicks.
It makes me nuts when there is something we can do to improve something - like a bottom line - and people still resist change. I truly believe if e.l.f. ever stood still, we wouldn’t be growing like we are while disrupting norms, shaping culture and connecting our community.
SMD as we affectionately call it here builds on our Change the Board Game MOVEMENT that we want everyone and anyone to join, for the benefit of shareholders as well as future generations in the workforce.
If you can see it, you can be it. Change the board game, normalize diversity, change the world.
Raise your hand in the comments if you want to see more women and diverse representation in the highest seats of power🙋♀️
