Watch the below video clip and ask yourself as you implement AI into your business if it’s in keeping with inclusive design practices? What about visual alarm systems? Shopping malls, public places? Hotels? Have you put yourselves in other peoples shoes to check if they work for all? Think on it and then act.

🗣️Disappointing to see that the new Prime Minister's inaugural speech did not have a sign language interpreter present. This is despite "a pledge from 10 Downing Street to ensure that future major press conferences and briefings from the Prime Minister include an in-person British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter from Spring 2024," as set out in the Government's Disability Action Plan (DAP) published earlier this year. https://lnkd.in/ekytkx-y The RNID and British Deaf Association had an interpreter on hand today as the leading political parties had recently been "unable to confirm" whether one would be provided, yet even this interpreter could not be utilised. This once again excludes d/Deaf people and BSL users. To quote Keir Starmer, "Our country has voted decisively for change" and "We need to move forward together," yet how can this be achieved if the leaders are not setting an example? The new Government must implement positive changes to accommodate all if we are to truly build a better society in the UK. #inclusion #disability #deaf #equality #change
Really?! No BSL interpreter for this moment of national importance Keir Starmer? This shows a total lack of respect and care for the UK’s deaf BSL users, who deserve to be able to have this historic information at the same time. Grateful to ADARA: Excellence in Service Delivery to Individuals Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing for giving me the opportunity to present on “Strategic Insights into Organizations that Serve our Community.” Key takeaways from the session: • Legislation can be enacted based on a single needs assessment, as was the case in Connecticut. They now have a mandate and funding to create a new bureau for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, among other achievements. • Statewide priorities can be immediately apparent through data collection, analysis, and reporting. In Louisiana, an ASL Interpreter needs assessment revealed what needed to be done to change the situation. Since then, they have done an incredible job with new strategic initiatives intended to bring about these important outcomes. Integrating data into strategic conversations drives significant and lasting change. Together, we can harness the power of data to shape a brighter future for our communities.

ISO Deaf/HOH/Interpreting community help -- I'm a bit behind on all the happenings with VRI / DVC. According to the latest on social media, it *seems* that Deaf people can now use video relay interpreting for free - not only for communicating with people through phone calls (and Zoom with phone calling enabled), but by using an app while being physically next to the person they are communicating with. Accurate? If yes, which companies provide this service, and what are the limitations, if any? I searched and unless I overlooked it somewhere, it doesn't seem there is an article, webpage, resource that has an overview of all the current options available. I missed the recent FCC meeting discussing DVC, where I'd probably have gotten the answer to this question. If inaccurate, please help me understand what DVC is all about. If there's a resource that has information about all the current options, please share the link - they are not getting picked up by search engines. TIA! 🙏

⚡️Equity - Accessibility - Parental Rights - Neurodiversity - Disability Awareness - Belonging & Wellbeing ⚡️
This is the TRUE power of inclusivity, EDI and accessibility. EDI isn't about quotas, or a business sell. Most people working in this field don't care for virtue signalling or performative gestures (even if sometimes, they can have an impact and yield results just from being present) It's about making the world a more equitable and enriching place for marginalised people. https://lnkd.in/eJq-4Dn9
