Senior Data Engineers... Let's Dive In! It seems there isn't a day that passes without engaging in conversations with senior data engineers. Across every market, trends emerge alongside subtle nuances. Whether navigating through layoffs and redundancies, seizing opportunities for promotions with more prestigious titles and competitive salaries, or simply opting for a lateral move to achieve a better work-life balance through remote or hybrid arrangements. I've been noticing significant movements in middle management within the realm of data engineering, accompanied by a remarkable uptick in the number of roles being advertised and recruited for. It's evident that the demand for data engineers is on an upward trajectory. So here's how to stand out if you're looking for a move! 🤖 Keep your LinkedIn up to date, providing as much detail as you can about your current position, including day-to-day responsibilities, the technologies you work with, and any management experience. 👾 Make sure you have tagged skills on your profile, whether that be Azure or AWS, Python, etc. It will make you easier to search for and increase the likelihood of receiving relevant messages about new job opportunities. 👽 Have a clear vision of what you are looking for and discuss it openly. The more honest you are about your preferences, the more a recruiter can assist you. 🤠 Keep an up-to-date CV. There is nothing worse than wanting to apply for a role and realizing you have to spend time updating a CV, which is then inevitably rushed. Check out the MBN website for the various the data engineering roles we have : https://lnkd.in/eBzQHeyc

🚀 SQL Time 🚀 Imagine you're managing an Employee database for a tech company. Your task is to generate a report on high-salary employees with specific job titles. The goal is to order the employees first by their roles and then by their salary within each department. You need to retrieve employee details, including their IDs, job titles (specifically 'Software Engineer' and 'Data Scientist'), hire date, and salaries from the Payment table. #sql #database

One of the pain-points I heard from data leaders last year was that it can be hard to justify hiring a data engineer. Hiring a data scientist or analyst is generally easier to sell to the business because their work is immediately tangible. Many data scientists and analysts are also great at building SQL and notebooks workflows that can take data from Data Lakes and process it into a usable format. So why even hire data engineers? This is a question so many companies have run into. The truth is, companies can get away without data engineers for a little bit. But here’s what often happens. 1)Tech-debt starts to build 2) Lots of pipelines and data workflows get set-up for one-off requests 3) No one ever thinks about data governance 4) Even small changes risk breaking multiple critical flows 5) No one wants to own any of the above This has happened time and time again. It eventually comes to a head once the CEO is tired of dealing with conflicting numbers, slow dashboards and the constant "we can't change that, or something might break" responses. If you're that CEO or a data leader who needs to have that conversation with the CEO, then let's talk!

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern. Last 4 weeks: 1. "We're looking for a mid-level data engineer. Do you know anyone that's looking?" 2. "We're thinking of adding the first data engineer to the team. Can you help with the profile and recommend anyone?" 3. "I've been at this place for a few months but would prefer something else. Know anyone who's looking for a new data engineer?" I haven't been able to help anyone find a new job yet, but if this keeps happening, I might. So, if you're looking, let me know. PS. I did help the second company - we went through the problem space and figured out a better architecture. It also didn't require hiring.
