Hitting your fundraising goals doesn't have to be a mystery or a shot in the dark. Investing in clear, transformation-first messaging *now* is the first step toward an exceptional strategy. The biggest and most successful capital campaigns and major fundraising moments start with a crystal clear vision and story. Often, nonprofits lead with the problem, programming, and proof. That's important. But there's more to the story about why someone will choose to give. Start with the right foundation, and the tactics will write themselves. Ready to have a great end-of-year? Comment STORY and we’ll DM you with something special coming soon.

“You can raise on numbers or you can raise on story, but you shouldn’t raise on both." Love this fundraising advice from Vanta CEO Christina Cacioppo. If you have amazing metrics, make that the focus of your pitch to investors. If you don't that's ok -- but make sure you can tell an amazing story about where you're going. “Major gifts fundraising is all about ‘the ask,’ right?” Wrong. It’s about the relationship before the ask. The secret to a great ask? Listening. Find out what inspires your donor, what drives them, and how they want to leave their mark. A meaningful relationship turns an intimidating conversation into a mic-drop moment. Learn more about how you can better inspire your donors to give big at your mission! Let's start with a conversation. This is the biggest misconception I see in fundraising ❌ A lot of people think if they bring all their fancy metrics, PowerPoints and dividends, donors will see how great their ask is and open up their wallets. But at the heart of fundraising is emotion ❤️ Don’t get me wrong, numbers are super important! But we use them to back up an emotional decision or to verify what we've already decided in our hearts. Fundraising is story-driven. It's a story of why we got involved, the stories of our clients, and whom we hope to impact in the world. What is the biggest misconception you see in the fundraising world?

Stories humanize abstract concepts. You'll raise more money if you share a gripping story about someone impacted by a natural disaster than if you only explained the material objects they lost because of it. Facts alone won't move the needle for fundraising. Stories paint the picture. I'm leading a workshop on this tonight for Social Venture Partners Charlotte and their 2025 #SEED20 class. 👋 Come say "hi" if your organization needs help with storytelling! #StorytellingCoach #StorytellingConsultant #PublicSpeakingCoach
