Transforming a one-time donor into a lifelong supporter is all about the care we show long after the first gift is made. Here’s what I’ve learned from managing direct mail campaigns: 1. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 - Quick follow-up is key. Prioritize thanking donors and then asking again. It keeps the momentum going and shows donors we value their timely support. 2. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 - Knowing what matters to our donors makes all the difference. By linking their interests directly to our projects, we show them the real impact of their generosity, reinforcing the good decision they made to support us. 3. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 - Honesty goes a long way. Sharing both our successes and our needs helps build trust. Donors appreciate knowing where their money is going and seeing how they’re helping us tackle challenges.
