Hiring a Product Designer/UX Designer seems pretty simple right? Like making a cacio e pepe (don't ruin it by adding butter or oil) Time and time again I see people going about it the wrong way and so much time/effort is being wasted. 1️⃣ "Experience in Figma would be beneficial" 2️⃣ "You'll be responsible for conducting user research and creating hi fidelity prototypes" Great, this is like telling a Business Analyst you'll be responsible for creating documentation. No s**** Be specific. The cost of a poor design talent hiring strategy will be greater than just getting a specialist do it for you. It'll save you time and money. Very insightful. Candidates receive generic rejection mails but this post here actually addresses what might have caused the rejection. While it may not be for the job you're applying for, it will help you understand the company's POV

🚩 While this SOUNDS like a post about "we hire the best of the best", there are many red flags. 🚩 The process needs an overhaul instead of blaming the talent trying to survive this meat-grinder. I'm not at all surprised AI gets used to save time on a large time investment (5+ hours!). They say "we did weeks of work free of charge" and expect their talent to do the same... except as a studio they're taking a calculated risk and the staff still gets paid for their time. "Detailed feedback" is not payment nor a payoff many will accept. Applying despite not ticking every single requirement is standard, most people ask for too much or just paint with broad strokes. Knowledge can transfer between similar tools, and if the person has potential sometimes it's best to train them instead of trying to remove bad habits. Lastly, if people are not not talking about "unique skills" and that's what you wanted to hear, it sounds more like the interviewer's fault not asking the right questions.

I hired a Senior UX Designer a little over a month ago. At that time, we had to turn down a handful of other amazingly talented people. On Wednesday, our team opened up another Senior UX role. I reached out to the hiring managers and asked if they'd like to revisit conversations with any of the previous finalists - they did and we had 1 person in mind. I talked to this person yesterday, made an offer and they signed last night! In less than 24 hours, we got it done. Sometimes that "we'll keep your resume on file" is actually true 😉 A good reminder that creating a positive experience and building a great relationship with people can really help - you never know when your paths may cross again! #Hiring #Recruiting #TalentAcquisition

Whoa, it's been a while since I posted an update on the Remote, Senior, UX Research Jobs list, and things are *smoking*! As of November 12th, 2024, there are *47* open, Senior, Remote, UX Research positions on The List, including new listings at HubSpot, SeatGeek, Airbnb, Figma, and more amazing companies big and small, including a  #DirectorOfProductDesign role at Synthesia - right on the cutting edge of #GenAI. While this is a *fraction* of the open roles available out there, all of these are: #remote eligible #senior positions in either #UXResearch or  #SeniorProductLeadership or  #SeniorDesign jobs, which I think are natural progressions for people with 10+ years of UX Research work. And I’ve personally checked out each one, skipped over the #recruiters #reposting job ads, and made sure that the link is right to the hiring company’s website, not some third party. 🚀 Of the 47 jobs listed, 34 are *newly-added* just since October 12th - so there are LOTS of NEW opportunities out there. 🚀 16 have been removed from employers' websites or job boards in the last 30 days 🚀 On average, listings come and go in *38 days*. These jobs are highly-sought; but I’m also busy (new job!) and so I’m not cleaning the list as fast as I used to be when I was also job-hunting. There've also been some improvements to the  #UX of Ben's Senior, Remote, UX Research Jobs list: I’m committed to keeping these opportunities front and center for all the talented #UX folks out there, so please help me get this in front of as many people as you possibly can by liking, commenting on, and sharing this post. UX career path: Junior to Manager (it's simpler than you think) After 2 years as a UX Designer People switch to Product Manager The reason? ➡️ They don't know how deep they can develop. Learn what’s required at each level. That’s the secret sauce. Here’s the skills by seniority: 👶🏻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿: — Majority time spent in design tools — Focus on execution and mastering craft — Works on small parts of the product (w/ guidance) 👦🏻 𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹: — Understand the dev process — Builds toolbox of frameworks: UX, UI, comms — Experiment collab improvements, i.e. workshops — Involved in problem definition & project management 👨🏻 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿: — Excel at project management — Mentors mid-level & junior designers — Drive design processes from start to finish — Contribute to product strategy discussions — Wears many hats, going beyond just design tasks 🧔🏻♂️ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱/𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿: — Leads major initiatives — Defines strategic goals — Speak often about design's value — Guides positive team culture & career growth — Takes a big-picture view, i.e. setting up teams — Decides team allocation (think orchestra conductor) Working in UX offers a rich & varied career path.
