Can Down syndrome be inherited? Only 1% of all Down syndrome cases are passed from a parent to a child. So, in 99% of cases, Down syndrome doesn’t run in the family. But all families of different races or ethnic backgrounds can have a child with DS. And that’s why it's important that we continue to focus on research that can lead to scientific discoveries that improve the quality of life for those with DS. At DSA, our story started with a boy named Cal, who was born into a family with no history of DS. Join us in our mission to advocate for DS research. Whatever amount you choose, you can begin donating monthly. Set up a recurring donation at: https://lnkd.in/ghSDqNxE #nonprofit #downsyndrome #downsyndromeresearch #research

Fostering Connection through Giving Back In the spirit of community service, today, I took a small yet impactful step by donating plasma. This act is a testament to my dedication to giving back, recognizing the significance of my contribution, especially with my blood type representing only 6% of Canadians. Plasma donation, a critical component of medical treatments, reinforces my belief in the collective strength of our community. It's not just about the physical donation; it's about the connection we share as members of a larger whole. In my journey of giving back, I've discovered that small actions, such as volunteering and supporting local businesses, have a transformative effect on communities. These acts of kindness create a ripple effect, fostering a culture of giving that binds us together. When we share our experiences and encourage others to join in, we contribute to a culture of giving that goes beyond individual efforts. Together, we can build a community that thrives on compassion, mutual support, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact. Giving back is not just about making a difference; it's about feeling connected to something greater than ourselves. It's about recognizing the interdependence that exists within our community and understanding that each act of kindness strengthens the bonds that tie us together. Let's continue to build on this sense of connection through acts of service, inspiring positive change together. By fostering a culture of giving, we not only make an impact on the lives of others but also enrich our own lives with a profound sense of purpose and interconnectedness. #CommunityService #SupportLocal #InspireChange #CreateConnection #FosterCommunity #Create

This past week was a whirlwind. We (Wheel) were at #DigitalPharmaEast, promoting our work with life science organizations and learning more about the challenges they face in supporting consumers. Then came a packed weekend—my son’s sports events, my daughter dancing at a local festival, the Wayne Wildcats fundraiser full of cheer and football, and, of course, the incredible #Reagan’sRun2024. (See below and make sure to donate! 💜 ) I’d love to say I gave my best to every single thing, but let’s be honest, I simply couldn’t, I was cooked... And as I reflected on this week, on everything I heard, saw, and experienced, it hit me just how human we all are and how hard balancing life is—let alone doing so with a challenging health condition or having to care for a family member or friend. This brings me back to a realization that we get caught up in our business goals, focused on metrics, KPIs, and product innovation. But the truth is, the people we’re trying to help are just like us. They’re not just patients or data points. They’re individuals, living full, complex lives, trying to juggle their own sets of challenges. Yet, too often, we develop solutions from the organization’s perspective rather than through the lens of the person we're trying to help. We focus on solving the problem we think needs attention, designing around it, and then wonder why engagement falls short. The reality is, we need to start by meeting people where they are, recognizing where they are in their health journey—whether they’re facing a new diagnosis, managing a chronic condition, or just trying to make it through their daily routine. At the heart of every innovation we build is a person with a story, a challenge, and a desire for better health. When we approach our work with that in mind, we’re not just improving systems or efficiencies—we’re helping real people. The next time we sit down to innovate, which will likely be today, let’s be sure to see it from their side of the table.
