We have two summer internship roles currently available within the Department of Health Education. I have gotten quite a few emails from interested candidates who have just sent their resume as an attachment, without any text in the body of the email. I thought it might be helpful to provide some clear, simple suggestions for how to send an email expressing interest in an open role like this one. 1. Begin by introducing yourself, and stating your interest. "Hi, my name is Alyssa Gale, and I am writing to express my interest in the summer 2024 internship role with the Mount Sinai Public Health and Racial Justice Program." 2. Share a little bit of background that you think demonstrates your passion or qualifications. "As a champion for health equity, I have worked on xyz programs / with xyz groups / addressing xyz issues." 3. Thank the reader for their time, and reiterate your interest. "I appreciate your consideration, and am hopeful for the opportunity to further express my interest." Your email does not have to be long! Just a few sentences can do the trick, and provide a strong first impression that communicates enthusiasm and graciousness. It makes a big difference!
