We are very proud to announce that in 2024 Christopher Bauder returns to Kraftwerk Berlin for his biggest and most personal indoor light installation to date: VEKTOR - Memories in Light & Sound 01.February to 07.April 2024 WHITEvoid is responsible for the production of the entire event and the development of the customized control software. Visitors will be able to submerge themselves in a strangely fascinating sound and imagescape spanning over 2000 m2 while Bauder merges kinetic light from 50 moving lasers with a self-composed, three-dimensional soundscape to create a synaesthetic work of art. Sound elements are woven into the three-dimensional musical worlds of VEKTOR, recapitulating the artist's previous work and outlining his path into the future. With VEKTOR @ Kraftwerk Berlin , Christopher Bauder is also returning to one of his absolute favourite venues. After SKALAR and DEEP WEB, VEKTOR is his third monumental installation in this unique industrial cathedral. At its core, VEKTOR stands for the fusion of art and science. Christopher Bauder and his team have therefore teamed up with the renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP ( https://lnkd.in/eCsyN-nX ) to conduct evidence-based research into the complicated relationship between acoustics, art and human experience. This ephemeral installation by Grip Face is part of the project called “The shelter is loud in your head”; the work is an architectural construction reminiscent of a hut or a tepee. Inspired by the mobile and ephemeral constructions that are spread across multiple cultures, the piece reflects the return of ephemeral or mobile constructions and their relevance to the territory. The interior of the work is made up of 8 octagonal mirrors: each of these mirrors carries an accumulation of images that together generate an encrypted story. The holes where visitors will be reflected are not trivial; these mirrors are composed in such a way that each hole forces the spectator to redirect their gaze towards the images that the artist decides. A mechanism similar to that of the algorithm, which often decides for oneself, thus losing - and increasingly so - the habit of investigating on one’s own. This work brings several concepts to the table; the massive loss of attention and contemplation on the part of the great social mass due to the excessive use of digital algorithms that cloud the mind of deliberate information is one of them. The artist himself has been working on these ideas for years, focusing on how our digital avatar is empowered over our personal identity, which is consequently contaminated, making the relationship between the physical and the virtual liquid. DISCOVER THE UNSEEN | Through glass we see the passage of art, from the Renaissance to the digital age. Throughout the history of art, the framed image has symbolized a gateway to other worlds, a concept introduced by Leon Battista Alberti in the 15th century. Glass has always played an important role in this process. Leonardo da Vinci used a pane of glass to accurately depict landscapes or objects by sketching directly on it and then transferring the sketch to paper. This analog method allowed for a faithful representation of reality. Tornike Abuladze's "Kim II," a 60 x 60 cm sandblasted white glass piece, integrates the historical significance of glass with modern technological advances. While the glass of a smartphone screen invites us to explore unknown territories with a simple swipe, for contemporary artists, this surface transforms into a dynamic canvas of creativity. The versatility and mobility of smartphones open up endless possibilities, allowing artists to explore new forms of expression, reach wider audiences, and produce entirely new realities through post-processing and AI in unprecedented ways. #glass #digitalart #smartphoneart #tornikeabuladze #theworldinmyhand Tornike Abuladze, Kim II, 2019 | Sandblasted white glass, 60 x 60 cm | On loan from the artist. | Photo: Felix Nürmberger

🦋 Researchers developed a nanostructured #light diffuser that provides balanced #lighting by diffracting blue and red light, and can be cleaned by simple rinsing with water. The diffuser consists of cheap materials and can be shaped with common tools. A protective glass coating maintains the diffuser's optical performance yet adds durability. This work might improve the visual performance of everyday lighting displays. #iluminación #luz #fotónica #photonics #research #Investigación https://lnkd.in/dkfN3wbf

Art is a profound form of human expression that transcends language, culture, and time. It encompasses a wide range of activities, from painting, sculpture, and architecture to music, dance, and literature. Each form of art serves as a medium through which individuals can convey emotions, ideas, and narratives that resonate with both the creator and the audience. Throughout history, art has played a vital role in shaping societies, reflecting cultural values, beliefs, and social changes. For instance, the Renaissance marked a period of rebirth in European art, where artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo explored humanism, anatomy, and perspective, pushing the boundaries of what art could achieve. In contrast, modern art movements like Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism challenged traditional techniques and perceptions, encouraging viewers to see the world in new ways. Art also serves as a mirror to society, often reflecting the political, economic, and social issues of the time. For example, Pablo Picasso's "Guernica" is not just a masterpiece of modern art; it is a powerful anti-war statement that captures the horrors of the Spanish Civil War. Similarly, street art and graffiti often convey social and political messages, challenging the status quo and giving a voice to marginalized communities. In contemporary society, art continues to evolve with the advent of new technologies. Digital art, for example, has opened up new possibilities for creativity, allowing artists to explore new dimensions and mediums. Virtual reality and augmented reality are also pushing the boundaries of how art is experienced, creating immersive environments that engage multiple senses. Moreover, art has a therapeutic value, offering solace and a means of coping with life's challenges. Art therapy, for instance, uses creative processes to help individuals explore their emotions, reduce stress, and improve mental health. In essence, art is an integral part of the human experience. It has the power to inspire, provoke, and connect people across different cultures and eras. Whether through a timeless painting, a moving piece of music, or a poignant piece of literature, art enriches our lives and offers us new perspectives on the world and ourselves.

I find this fascinating from the 1970s. "Seek", 1970 by Nicholas Negroponte with the Architecture Machine Group , M.I.T. Originally shown at the "Software" exhibition, curated by Jack Burnham for the Jewish Museum in New York 1970. The piece consisted of a Plexiglass encased, computer-controlled environment full of small blocks and inhabited by gerbils, who continuously changed the position of the blocks. Following instructions programmed by the authors the robotic arm automatically rearranged the blocks in a specific pattern. Once the arrangement was disrupted, a computer-controlled robotic arm rebuilt the block configurations in a manner its programmers believed followed the gerbil's objectives. The designers, however, did not successfully anticipate the reactions of the animals, who often outwitted the computer and created total disarray. The exhibit was also referred to as "Blocksworld".
