What’s the Benefit of Using a CONA Orthopedic Urgent Care Clinic? 🚨🩼
Most bone, joint, or muscle injury patients head straight to the emergency room for care. But you may make the wrong choice for your condition—or your wallet 💳
A study published on PubMed Central suggests that in the United States, between 13.7% and 27.1% of emergency department visits could be handled in physician offices, clinics, and urgent care centers instead, which would save up to $4.4 billion every year.
Instead of visiting an emergency room, it might be more beneficial to seek out an orthopedic specialist right away.
Orthopedic urgent care costs are the same as those of regular office visits. You can still access specially-trained physicians and on-site services such as X-rays, casting, splinting, bracing, and injections. ✅
In all our locations, you can get better care from our fellowship-trained, board-certified specialists focusing on bone, joint, or muscle injuries! CONA offers Orthopedic Urgent Care & Walk-In Clinic in Spartanburg, SC, Duncan, SC, and Greenville, SC 📍

Running an orthopedic practice is more demanding than ever, with increasing patient volumes and complex administrative tasks. But there’s a game-changing solution: Medical Virtual Assistants (MVAs).
MVAs are skilled professionals who work remotely to streamline your practice, allowing you to focus on what truly matters—patient care.
✨ Why You Should Consider MVAs:
👉 Boost Efficiency: MVAs handle essential tasks like appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and documentation, freeing up your in-house team to focus on patient care.
👉 Enhance Patient Experience: With MVAs managing patient communication and follow-ups, your patients receive timely, professional responses, leading to higher satisfaction and retention rates.
👉 Stay Compliant: MVAs ensure your documentation is accurate and compliant with ever-changing healthcare regulations, reducing the risk of penalties and legal issues.
👉 Cost-Effective: Save on overhead costs associated with in-house staff by hiring MVAs who bring expertise at a fraction of the cost.
Imagine reducing your administrative workload and elevating your patient care all at once. With MVAs, it’s not just possible—it’s the future of orthopedic practices.

Eliminating pre-authorization in health care: an orthopedic surgeon’s perspective
The first change I'd advocate for is eliminating pre-authorization, although maintaining oversight is still essential. We recognize that there are bad actors and that mistakes occur, underscoring the need for some form of regulation. However, the relatively new concept of requiring authorization for every step of patient care creates unnecessary barriers. Once a patient is authorized to see me as an orthopedic hand surgeon, I should be trusted to determine their treatment plan. For example, if I decide that a patient needs a plate on their distal radius, I am the most qualified to make that decision—not someone at an insurance desk across the country. This current system undermines the expertise of healthcare professionals and delays critical care. By trusting medical professionals to make these decisions, we can streamline the process, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the administrative burden on both doctors and patients.

Pre-Operative Care...
Pre-operative care refers to the preparation and attention given to patients before they undergo a hip, knee or shoulder surgery. This includes conducting pre-operative assessments, providing information about the surgery and what to expect, ensuring the patient is in optimal health for the procedure, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Through this step, we aim to ensure the safety and readiness of each patient prior to their upcoming surgery, as well as to help them feel informed and supported throughout the process.
Many times, we find that patients aren't aware of the potential risk factors prior to surgery so recently, we've added some steps in our process to help educate, inform, and start the conversation. By adding visual diagrams with descriptive details outlining the most common risk factors (diabetes, tobacco use, anemia, obesity, malnutrition, and mental health) to each patient exam room, patients and their guests are now able to read about some of these factors while in the exam room.
Additionally, we provide patients with a risk factor factsheet in their packets they take home after their appointment. This then provides them with the information once they get home, should they have any follow up questions or concerns.
We've noticed a great deal of positive feedback since implementing our Wellness Institute to the process at Whole Health Orthopedic Institute. Patients continue to extend their appreciation to our Wellness Team for their dedication to individualized care.
As we continue to grow as a team and practice, we'll continue to implement and make adjustments to our process as needed, always keeping our patient-first & patient-focused mindset at the forefront.
