As doctors, our role often comes with a sense of urgency, and it’s easy for that urgency to start spilling over into other areas of our lives. Here’s a little trick that might help, give yourself some intentional transition time. When you’re moving from one task to another—like finishing up at work and heading home or switching from a work thought to a personal moment—pause for a few deep breaths. This simple act of pausing helps create a mental boundary, letting you leave the urgency behind, it’s all about carving out those small moments of calm. Have you tried this before? #intentionaltime #doctorwellbeing #momentsofcalm #stillness #healthehealers #humansinhealth #CPDApproved

Founder & Well-Being Advocate at Toxic Work Spaces. | My work mainly focuses on toxic work spaces awareness-building | Personal Brand Manager @ Invsble Media
It’s a safe bet that many of us are navigating the world without even realizing we have experienced a traumatic event, especially at work. Everytime I have a sit down with professionals, especially those in toxic work spaces or those who've left such workspaces, it confirms that our bodies holds on to trauma and our bodies respond to trauma long before we’ve had an opportunity to wrap our minds around what has transpired. At toxicworkspaces.com, we define trauma as an emotional response that results from disturbing events like a toxic work space. If you often feel irritable and sad or disconnected and numb and it never seems to end, chances are that you might be responding to trauma that you went through. Most of us professionals will experience at least one major traumatic event in the workplace, and usually we move through it without ongoing distress or suffering. For others it's the opposite but whether or not you carry emotional scars with you after a traumatic event has a lot to do with how your body and mind process it. At this point, it's important for you to reflect on how your mind and body has processed trauma based on how your mind and body often responds to it. We'll continue hosting conversations with professionaIs with the help of experts in our community who have knowledge in the field. Moses Kinyanjui NORA NYONGESA I wish you all a good afternoon. #trauma #healing #wellbeingatwork #traumainformed #professionals

A Little Secret from a Therapist: ✨If you’re having a hard time or struggling at work, then it makes sense. We are living through chronic trauma because of the pandemic. ✨In some ways, get through it one day at a time or one hour at a time. ✨We can’t forever predict how things are going to be. ✨Be as present and as mindful as you can be in this moment. ✨ Don’t worry about the whole year, just focus on this hour or this moment. Repeat after me: I will just focus on this moment or this hour. #alexiamcleod #therapeuticcenterforhope #hopebasedcounseling #careersecretsfromatherapist #worktips #workadvice #livinginthemoment #stressingoverfuture #focusingonthemoment #mindfulnessmatters #mindfulliving #livingstressfree #positivity #positivevibes #happytime #TherapistWisdom #WorkplaceStruggles #MentalHealthAwareness #PandemicStress #OneDayAtATime #OneHourAtATime #PresentMomentLiving #MindfulWorkplace #FocusOnNow #WorkplaceResilience #MentalHealthMatters #StressManagement #MindfulnessAtWork #SelfCompassion #ResilienceInWork

From tolerable to toxic. According to the Yerkes-Dodson Law, there is a certain amount of stress that has positive effects on performance. A mild to moderate amount of short-term stress can drive motivation and arousal, giving you the energy to get things done. We get a little kick of stress when we need it to help us perform at our best. Then, after getting that stress-related adrenaline boost, we can return to baseline. Stress that is either higher or lower than this sweet spot, however, results in steadily decreasing performance. The relationship between stress and performance is like the classic bell curve: when this stress becomes frequent or chronic, it goes from tolerable (and in some cases, motivating) to toxic.

Research shows that empathy is a whole-body experience: We mirror each other’s physiology alongside the emotion. Negative states, whether it is pain, anger, or anxiety, create high activation & arousal in the body, so when you empathize with someone stressed, you become stressed, too. This is why so many caregivers experience burnout. #wellbeing #compassion #empathy #burnout #fatigue

2wGreat tip, I’ve heard this transition time referred to as the “third space” and have found this useful to move from one part of my life to another. Particularly useful when moving from work to family as it facilitates intentionality, presence and connection.
