It has been my observation that our current iteration of a provincial government has little to no reservations with using court time and paying the costs to fight whatever ideological fight they think will appeal to their voter base. Touting wins against the federal government on fights that they are picking with little or no real regard for what it means to all Albertans, current and future is the modus operandi of Danielle Smith and the United Conservative Party of Alberta. It comes as no real surprise then that the UCP and Danielle have been silent on a recent judgement which went very much against them. Albertans that seem to be all about freedom and individual rights ought to be concerned with what Justice Teskey notes including “The requesting parties have been practically denied access to the information they are entitled to at law and this court will not abet this conduct through the availability of judicial review". Teskey further goes on to note “I am concerned about the seemingly casual attitude that Alberta Energy adopted in representing the number of records before the commissioner”. Let's chalk one up for the little guy in Alberta that has faced "public bodies are unwilling or unable to comply with their timely obligations under (freedom of information law)". Many of us can appreciate the challenges dealing with bureaucracy such as the Alberta Energy Regulator and should be supporting, in any way possible, this small group of southern Alberta ranchers seeking the truth with respect to the government's reversal respecting coal mining in Alberta. Madame Premier, Albertans deserve better than the nonstop antagonism with the feds and municipalities and picking winners (typically large cap fossil producers) and losers (everyone else that does not produce fossils).

This is a great example of leveraging established mature protocols to accelerate Alberta's position in development and production of mineral resources. Where many other regions may need to start with new regulations, Alberta has mature framework to work from. Additional as opposed to creating new government entities at the tax payers cost, leveraging established entities, with minimum kit mindset to support new integration. Good governance.
