🏗 When you're learning something new, the right level of support goes a long way. In learning design, scaffolding refers to the support structures you provide to learners as they develop knowledge and skills. Think of it like constructing a building: you start with strong support, then gradually remove support elements as the structure becomes stable. Similarly, in education, scaffolding involves giving learners the right amount of help at the right time, so they can confidently progress from simple to complex tasks without feeling under- or overstimulated. Whether you’re designing a curriculum, writing a course, or creating interactive simulations, integrating scaffolding into your learning experiences ensures that learners aren’t overwhelmed and can achieve mastery at their own pace. This might involve ➡ breaking down difficult tasks into manageable steps, ➡ recommending learning units based on a pre-assessment, ➡ providing clear instructions, and ➡ offering feedback and resources just when learners need them. With this approach, scaffolding empowers learners to become independent and capable, making the learning process both effective and enjoyable. #learningexperiencedesign #learningdesign #transitioningteachers #learninganddevelopment #instructionaldesign #elearning

I feel really quite strongly that anyone can write a course or programme BUT not everyone knows how to design learning that matters. Best practice isn't just about being able to do it. Best practice isn't just about good testimonials. Leading learning comes with a whole set of responsibilities that not enough trainers, course creators and educators take into consideration. ❌ Inappropriate teaching methods ❌ Unmet learning style ❌ Unthought out objectives ❌ Information overload ❌ No one checking learning is happening Just a few of the common issues that happen when best practice isn't thought about 🤷🏼♀️ When you can't see it, you can't see it. But when you work with someone who can, it's magical ✨ #DesigningLearningThatMatters

“Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister As someone who is passionate about education, learning, and creating impactful experiences, this course has helped hone my skills in designing effective and engaging learning materials. Here are some key takeaways from the course: 🛠️ ADDIE Framework: I learned how to use this foundational model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) to create structured, learner-centered experiences. 🎯 Learning Objectives: Crafting clear, measurable learning outcomes ensures that both the designer and the learner are aligned from the start. 📊 Assessment Design: Understanding the difference between formative and summative assessments has deepened my ability to measure and track learner progress more effectively. 🎮 Engagement Techniques: Exploring how to use gamification and interactive learning to keep learners motivated and invested in their development. 💻 eLearning Tools: I got hands-on experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other tools that make virtual learning accessible and impactful. This course has given me a strong foundation to not only design instructional materials that work but to truly create learning experiences that stick with people long after the course is over. I’m excited to continue applying these skills in my professional journey and help others learn, grow, and thrive! 🌱 #InstructionalDesign #LearningExperienceDesign #ProfessionalDevelopment #eLearning #ADDIE #LMS #LearningAndDevelopment #CourseCompleted #LifeLongLearning Just finished the course “Instructional Design: Adult Learners” by Jeff Toister! Understanding the difference between short-term and long-term memory can transform your instructional design. Here’s the key: transferring knowledge from short-term to long-term memory requires strategic reinforcement. Spaced repetition, practice quizzes, and real-world applications help solidify learning. For example, instead of a one-time lesson, schedule follow-ups to revisit key concepts. Incorporate interactive exercises that prompt learners to retrieve information. These strategies don’t just help learners remember—they help them apply knowledge when it matters most. What’s your favorite method to enhance memory retention in your learning designs? #InstructionalDesign #LearningRetention #MemoryStrategies #Education

This! 👏 This is why learning design without strategy isn’t learning and it isn’t design. Picture a branching map that asks the question “Do you want your learner to remember your content?” If yes, use strategy. If No, don’t use strategy. But why would you ever NOT want your users, learners, customers, etc. to remember your content??? 🫨🤔

"Yet Another Midweek Thought" During one of my projects, I faced a challenge while developing an online course. The subject matter expert (SME) had great knowledge but found it hard to make the content easy and engaging for learners. To solve this, I suggested breaking the content into smaller, manageable parts and adding interactive elements like quizzes and scenarios. We also used storytelling to frame complex information within relatable contexts and real-life examples. So, instead of a long lecture on the topic, we created a story about a character making decisions in different situations. This experience taught me that effective instructional design isn't just about presenting information; it's about creating a learning experience that resonates with, sticks with, and empowers the learner. Collaboration and creativity are key, and sometimes, the best solutions come from thinking outside the box. Have you faced similar challenges? How did you handle them? #InstructionalDesign #Elearning #EdTech #LearningExperience #Education #Collaboration #OnlineLearning #SME #InstructionalStrategies #Scenarios #Storytelling #Learning #Students #learners #Edreform #elearningdesign #OnlineLearning #reflection #instructionaldesigninsights

Explained: Habit as a factor that help learners learn better that can take learner from Point A to Point B. The role of any learning materials are to take the learner’s skill or knowledge to point A to point B. As a learner, we shall focus on habits and consistency. For example, when we are ill, we want to become fit. Point A is ill and Point B is fit. Here, we take the medicine at the specified time with precondition that we have to take it after or before food. Similarly, learning also needs habits if we have to travel from point A to point B. While we have talked about learners, the Instructional designers need to think that what they can do which can help the habit formation for learners. #instructionaldesign #learninganddevelopment
