Our Commission on Software-Defined Warfare is off & running! What a first day! We debated & discussed what the focus of the commission should be. We spent a lot of time trying to identify the problem to be solved, which is easier said than done. We also discussed the name of the commission, with many proposing changes. The conversation was respectful, but there were disagreements, which is a good thing. There were a few core issues: - What is intellectual property, how is it protected, and how is it used? - Should we focus on software, the technical stack that supports it, or both? - Is there a difference in how the DoD should apply dual-use software (e.g. logistics management, budgeting, predictive maintenance, etc.) vs. that which is used solely for warfighting? Much more to come!

For Women’s History Month, we’re recognizing the successes and achievements of BARDA employees. Meet Connie Song, Lead Contract Specialist, Division of Contract Management and Acquisitions. One of Connie’s greatest career achievements to date is having the opportunity to support the BARDA mission and working with such a talented and dedicated group. She added, “specifically providing contracting support to the Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (DRIVe) in launching new and novel program initiatives.” Connie’s advice to young women who are just starting their professional careers is: “stay true to yourself and pursue your passions. Those incremental steps (some of which will feel like steps backwards) toward achieving every goal you set out to tackle is part of the experience that makes those more challenging moments worthwhile — there’s no failure in learning.” Women strengthen public health and national security with their dedication to meaningful work. Bill George, Interesting point of view. Can you explain how Minnesota's abortion policy supports your claim that "Tim Walz can find a resolution that's good for everyone"? How is not holding the father accountable for supporting a mother's decision to have the child good for everyone? How is putting money into a health care system to handle a completely avoidable pregnancy good for everyone? How is aborting a child's life good for everyone? How is spending tax dollars to support a practice that many people think is murder good for everyone? How is allowing abortions to end of term good for everyone? How is spending taxpayers' dollars on Pro-choice programs and cutting spending on Pro-life programs good for everyone? How is spending tax dollars to bring women to Minnesota to have an abortion good for everyone? Bill George, how do you support a statement that Tim Walz is a moderate when Minnesota policy does not address the concerns of many people in Minnesota? Is not holding people accountable for the consequences of their decisions good for anybody?
