New findings published today in JAMA Network confirms children can indeed experience Long Covid. The RECOVER-Paediatrics study, led by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), examined 5,376 children aged 6 to 17 across 60 U.S. healthcare and community settings from March 2022 to December 2023. This comprehensive observational study relied on caregiver-reported symptoms and the PROMIS Global Health Scales to gather insights. These groundbreaking results mark a significant step in paediatric research, underscoring the urgent need for therapeutic trials. Our children’s health cannot wait. #PediatricResearch #LongCOVID #ChildrensHealth #NIH #LongCovid #LongCovidKids #Children #Kids #Research #ChildHood #Parenting #Paediatrics https://lnkd.in/e4cWCB_a

More children suffer from constipation than you probably realize. In fact, constipation accounts for almost 1 in 20 visits children make to a doctor, and studies show that 10% of children and adolescents in the U.S. suffer from chronic constipation. So naturally, #occupationaltherapy professionals are starting to see more of these kids on their caseloads—which brings us to our OT Potential article of the week examining what an interdisciplinary approach to pediatric constipation can look like. Tomorrow, we are excited to welcome to the OT Potential Podcast Quiara Smith, an OT who owns a pediatric pelvic health practice. She and I will discuss the practical implications of this research for OT practice. 👏 This case series was written by: Holly Osborn, Stacey Reek and Brittany Anderson The article is available for purchase here: https://lnkd.in/gYgRctBt

Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are essential to understanding overall health beyond clinical care. Recognizing the impact of socioeconomic factors, environment, and health behaviors can transform patient outcomes. While recent collection mandates have only applied to adults, many pediatric health systems recognize that SDOH plays a critical role in children’s development and health, and have already implemented SDOH initiatives. Read the takeaways from our latest Pediatric Leadership Cohort and join us to collaborate on best practices to address challenges in pediatric care. https://lnkd.in/eUnDMcSe
